The city came down hard on gangs in the 90s. By like 97, 98, the streets were fairly safe aside from a few areas if you were a civilian. You would get ran down instantly if you were doing anything flagrant outdoors by the police. Gang unit was no joke! And Colfax was always a dopefiend strip.

Hell ya homie I'm from Flint Michigan and spent all my summers in Detroit with my grandparents. It ain't bad at all like that and since I came to visit 20 years ago you could wear your rag anywhere and there was some who might press you but for the most part as long as you wasn't a laim or punk you was good. There's killas everywhere and there's some solid homies in Denver too but as far as the landscape ain't no Ghetto here. Not like the places I've been and grew up in.
@2009kdizzle2 жыл бұрын
The hood has been heavily gentrified so it’s not the same place. If you’re new to Denver, it’s not the same place as Parnell is describing. It used to be if you were from Park Hill you better know someone on the East Side that could vouch for you and vice versa. You didn’t even have to be claiming a set. Niggas would follow you through the hood pull out just for getting gas on the wrong side of Colorado Blvd. but since the cities gotten so gentrified, all the gangs have been spread out throughout the city, that’s why you don’t see hoods anymore, but the violence is still around. We won’t even bring up the old Mexican gangs on the west side and north side and sets in Montbello and Aurora. I grew up in both Denver and LA. From staying off W 42nd & Normandie to MLK & Quebec street. So I know how crazy shit was in both towns. I remember getting shot at by Rollin 30’s at Skyland Park in Denver and trying to avoid the 9-0’s at Jessie Owens park in LA because my cousin was dating the enemy. So the Denver P is describing is the Denver/ParkHill we grew up in, not the one these newbies are taking about in the comments. I can wear all red or all blue anywhere in town and be good nowadays. It wasn’t like that back in the day. And no i never banged a day in my life I might add!

I was introduced to some promoter recently to get a spot to dj at. Just moved here from springs. I am from kland southside springs I’m used to the isht but I am old and never been about drama.. it doesn’t make money. . I know what it is but when I see all red. Couple my cousins and friends are bloods. But the 2nd time I went I did have a blue button up on.. the colors thing ain’t crucial in springs. I am definitely usually in red cause my close affiliates. But the vibe changed that night and I swear as usual a chic is setting me up for some back door activity. But I might just be paranoid. I know the game but being new living here I know how we were when people we didn’t know came into our neighborhood. But mostly because people think everything is sweet in Colorado.. not me.. I love our hood isht and know how to move anywhere really. I just don’t need drama.. I’m get money dude.. and I know plenty of people on that B&E. There always has been here in Denver. I produce. I grew up on og Denver stuff, like Kut-N-Kru, Unforgotten Familia, Concrete Poetry, MNLD from the Bellos, Boozilla aka Zaboo (Legend from the Bellos. He runs a studio and films music videos now. I got to meet him when we did a video for Flawless Money - In My Swisher, where I made the beat. Told him I grew up off his music.), Nyke Loc (aka Nyke Nitty, now), Black Hole Posse, ect. Kut n kru goes back to about 1989. The difference now is, we have social media. In the 90s and 00s, Denver didn't support Denver. The Bay Area rap scene has always been rich, and they support each other. We didnt have that back in the 90s and 00s. Even til this day, when I think of the Denver sound, I immediately think Kut n Kru, Boozilla, or Black Hole Posse. All of it influenced me. I still have my collection of rare Denver rap cds and cassettes. My og YT channel Untold Story of Hiphop in Denver has a few rare Denver songs I remastered. Glad to see the scene poppin now. My main artist/friend rn is Flawless Money. Prod x BSIII

Everyone talking about Quik in the comments I was there the night at Skate City. Even though Denver was mostly B at the time SC was on border line of Aurora so mostly Cs went there anyways it was just bad prompting not knowing where you at. I was a young teen at the time but gangs and west coast music influenced the hell of Denver!!
@jardanpeevy36303 жыл бұрын
Denver has NEVERRRRRRR been mostly Bloods I'm assuming that's what u mean by B altho over the years the B has grown prob quicker or more than any other set The East side 33s 32s &34s outnumber the bloods by them self FACTS that's not even counting the crips that claim west side hoods or fall from out of Montbello and as far as SC being on border of Aurora I'm assuming your talkin bout Skate City because in the song Quik mentions a bunk ass skating rink but that concert was not at Skate City it was at what was called at the time Mammoth Event center which is deep in East side Crips 30s 33s 32s 34s neighborhood hence why they was on Quik bumper that night
