Florida's Parker Valby destroyed the women's 10k invitational in her debut at the distance at the 2024 Bryan Clay Invitational, setting a new collegiate record of 30:50.43 and becoming the 11th-fastest American woman ever at the outdoor distance on the track.
That bested the previous collegiate record of 31:18.07 previously set by Iowa State's Lisa Kroll all the way back in 2008.

15:30 first 5K with a pacer and then 15:20 second 5K solo, including the extra distance she ran while passing other runners on the curves. Amazing performance.

The pacers slowed her down but helped her preserve energy for later. A first 5k at 15.20 next time and an equal or faster second 5k will qualify her for the olympics. She can go faster but must preserve those legs ankles and knees to avoid injury for gradual improvement over just going all out as this is a long term racing endeavor, not just one race.🤔🥰

I watched a cross country race that was 3 miles, not 3.1. My friend finished first by a lean at the line. She won by a 10th of a second. Nobody knew who won for a while. It was so exciting to see! It was the Woodbridge invitational on September 16, 2023 and is worth watching. Sadie Engelhardt finished 3rd! The winners were a Junior and a sophomore. That same friend ran faster than the previous national record for indoor 2 miles this winter at Nike indoor nationals, in second place to the sophomore runner who she beat in September. Watching Elite high school runners is a blast as well.

Parker's upper body strength is incredible. You need that for this pace over 10k. Also notice her breathing is calm, smooth and relaxed. She looked hugely PO'ed at the end of this race - perhaps because the lapped runners did not pull aside which in fairness usually is protocol and could have gifted her an extra 5 seconds. I pray her ego will stay checked and keeps a happy relationship with her fans and fellow runners.

No it was twofold i think, she missed the Olympic standard by 10 seconds. I don't think she was mad at the slower runners who earned their place there and also try to get their best time. Which they cannot get if they cater to her record attempt. All is fair in racing you are allowed to keep the inside lane if someone laps you it is their duty to go around. If you want you can let them pass and slow your numbers down to help them but its not the rules so we should not be mad at them for going for their best time as well. I think her team miscalculated how fast she was and could have paved her 10 seconds faster. 10 seconds faster on the first half of the races would have made the olympic standard. they miscalculated. The slower runners would not make up ten seconds. Hopefully she gets another chance with a faster pacer to take ten seconds off this time. She can obviously do it without trying hard.

She has finally figured out how to not slowdown at the end, and how to finish strong. Thanks to hard work, specialized training, , great competition from Tuohy and others, her coaches, teammates, and fans for pushing her. @S0ulinth3machin3
@S0ulinth3machin3 Ай бұрын
my speculation would be that competition from Touhy and others didn't have much to do with her progression. The factor which is way, way, way more significant is the program her coached devised for her to stay injury free. If only Mary Decker had that level of forward thinking influence in her life (she was always injured).

@@S0ulinth3machin3 I think losing so much to tuohy by like 2 seconds after leading the whole race her teammates coaches and training all had a role. I know I would want to beat the one causing me to come in second because i lack of late continued speed and kick etc. She has figured out how to get faster at the end run tangents get the inside lane pace herself run from behind and with pacers and she has an extremely high ceiling to improve she has not peaked yet.

There is an instance of a world class cyclist who got hired to one of the top teams after they verified his numbers from stationary indoor training. He's a solid worker on that team. I can’t imagine with this video quality, Flosports is going to do diamond league events. A lot of improvement to the product offering has to happen. And I’m one who constantly defends your hosts and content irregularities. I hope your higher ups see the intermediate quality of your broadcasts. You are asking $30/month or $150 per year for a subscription. For that, you need to be better than NBC’s coverage on Peacock ($7/momth) at the minimum. We fans will not sign up for that. Keep in mind we the fans are also runners 99% of the time. We have options, ultra running is growing and shoe brands and others are beginning to feature their teams with quality content. Many of us travel extensively to follow our sport with our families. I really am not certain if your higher ups at Flosports really understand that the fans are on the Athletes side and we see the work they put in. We don’t see what you do except to exploit runners and the fans desire to see their athletes. Keep messing us about and you will see your viewership tank. I believe i speak for my entire running group of 15 runners (8 women/7 men) from 17 yo - 55yo. Try and listen to the audience concerns. When Athletes start boycotting your interviews perhaps you will listen to these concerns.

she could already go sub 14:40 with competition since she ran 14:52 by herself (and having to pass lapped competitors on the outside). As for Touhy - they're not on the same level anymore, don't compare them, you're not doing Touhy any favors. Besides turning pro, Touhy is injured and Valby won't have competition from any collegiate competition. The only place for her to go (for real compoetition) are open races and the Olympic Trials.

I’m pretty sure they knew she was going to win. Most runners are running against themselves, trying to improve their own time . Having a group of people running with you just makes you want to run faster.

Her first attempt at this distance and she broke the collegiate record by 28 seconds! In other words she would have beaten the record holder by nearly half a lap. And that previous record was so fast it’s been the collegiate record since Parker was a 2nd grader back in 2010.

It doesn't look like people realize what is happening here. Maybe record setting is old hat now and that's a damned shame because it leads to questions. They expected it. Ah crap and this is on FloTrack. Do not pay them for the subs. Boycott them.

She's so strong bc she does hours of cross-training a week (which is usually solo look in the mirror kinda stuff). So she's trained her mind to be mentally tough when running out in front on her own. She's like Steph Curry she's changed the game.

New running science is telling sprinters only do a few max efforts a week and forget strength training. Now we have middle distance runners opting for low impact cross training. Makes sense to me.

She looked really annoyed after finishing the race. I think the lack of awareness by the other competitors (not moving over to lane 2 when getting lapped) ticked her off. I don't disagree. Nothing wrong with the officials getting involved and alerting runners to move over a lane.
