Worst part is, person called the non-emergency line. Had a guy do something similar to the bar I work at (after I kicked him out), and my friend that works dispatch hit me up and told me he was sending some units over. We talked about how it was a false call, but since it was non-emergency, it's treated as a "tip off" and they don't verify the person's identity. So they commit a felony, but use a loophole to avoid being caught

@@btarr Static IPs are highly uncommon for private households. You typically only get one if you specifically request one from your ISP, which might even come with extra costs. And even then, you can just get it changed by your ISP by just telling them that you get DDOSed.

Should this happen to you again, try restarting your router. This can prompt your Internet Service Provider to give you a new IP and everything will be back to normal. If you dont know how to do that, just wait a day. Your IP changes every day if you dont specifically own a static IP. In the end, knowing your IP address is absolutely useless to these idiots. They cant do anything besides DDOSing you. Your IP address is just a Random number that helps your router to connect to the internet. They might find out who your ISP is and in which Country the IP is located but that can be very far off and will never pinpoint your exact address or any other information.

I would like to point out, for anyone that might come across this, DDoS, SWATing, etc. is not just from this server, Gmod, or gaming servers in general. Every time you're interacting with others in an online environment you expose yourself to these risks. Its important to never link anything that has your real name attached to it, like your email. Your IP is generally not a big issue to get leaked. Even in the case of a DDoS. Always have a side email for games and accounts that aren't for your personal use (like Facebook). If you're under a DDoS attack, usually just restarting your router will stop it as it (usually) assigns you a new IP. If not you can plug a computer in to your router and login to it to reset it. Or just call your ISP and talk about them with the issue. A VPN is always a good idea online. About the only good free one is Proton VPN (paid plans are pretty good too, but the free plan works fine for general gaming and such (mostly)). Someone having your IP and getting your address from it is pretty much never the case. Its a combination of that, your signup details with the server/public info from your online accounts (Steam, Discord. etc.), and some stuff you probably don't think about when creating accounts or emails. tl:dr; Don't use your name (even your just first name) online or in your email address, and probably use a VPN (like Proton VPN's free plan).
