Kickers were top notch for years in the 80s and 90s. I grew up during a time Cerwin Vega, Rockford Fosgate, MTX and Kicker were the top brands in car audio before JL was even an option. Now there are so many name brands that it’s hard to know them all. Thanks for taking the time to try out so many brands! Glad to see Kicker is still out there impressing people!

@@chemicallust77 I still have three MTX 5000s 12 ohm subs in one of my cars. Bought them over 20 years ago. They are still working really well. The only reason I haven’t replaced them I haven’t hurt them and for nostalgia sake. Sounds like MTX is still growing also for what you mentioned. I’ll take a look to see what they have now.

Love Rockford Fosgate. I'm 35 now lol but when I was 18 I saved up and had 2 Fosgate T1 15s in a navigator and loved it. Now I see RF makes 16" woofers WTF?!?

But now after seeing the Solo-X, I am tempted to get one of them instead of 2 -Q class subs and just throw all 2500-3,000 watts at it.

I don't know about this exact sub, but the silver l5, & q class L7 12, I can tell you they are well built subs too! The l5 is better for 500 Watts and under, when I put the 1200 on it, it blew in 2 days!

I have running 5k on my solo x 12 daily for at least a 30 min commute to work. It barely gets warm. I also run about 3k to my solo x 15. I can't wait to upgrade my amps for that vehicle. I have so much more potential for the 15

@jlee8262- If you have your amplifiers wired to rated lowest impedance, & if they are regular type amplifiers= that don't try to account for impedance rise, then you are NOT getting anywhere near rated power. So yes your setups have more potential for sure!

@@evilinside5984 absolutely. I'm aware the sub is probably not seeing 5k all the time due to impedance rise. I have a 8k amplifier that puts out around 5k at 2ohms. I have a solox 12 wired in series to 2ohm. So it's wired to receive what the amp is capable of at 2 ohm but we in the bass community know about rise. That's why we run larger amps for the head room. I do have a AMM1 to see what I'm getting and how much I'm rising.

@@jlee8262 - The Amm-1 is not very consistent with power readings. Do you have a clamp meter, that you can put around your amplifiers Power Input Cables? Can't fool power numbers, Amperage drawn by the amplifier= power out! To quickly ball park, amplifiers actual Real Power output, like 200 Amps= 2,000 watts. Depends on voltage, & amp eff., but it still gives a very good idea of realtime power.

I have the Q class L7 12 and I must say, I am super impressed with it! I had a sundown 12 in a Q bomb ported box, it hits hard yes, but this l7 blows it out of the water! Ran both of them on a skar 1200 watt d class Amp. Only running it at 700 Watts bc that's all my high end can handle! But I bought upgraded door speakers and I will install them soon! Then I will cut the Amp up a Lil more!

I put one of these in my truck with a 5cf box with a giant port to their specs. I use a 2500W skar amp. It doesn't hit that hard not sure what I'm doing wrong. It hits, just not as hard as I thought it would. Edit. I just installed a BassBooster, now the speaker hits incredibly hard. I've never experienced anything like it.

Do you have a bass knob? They seem to make a huge difference between, using one and not using one!

@Rodogg7787 My amp came with a base knob and the base booster also came with a knob to turn it down.. The little base booster box seemed to make the biggest difference in correcting the factory EQ.

Glad to see another great video from you Parker and getting the Solo X 15 to test was definitely a good test, I can't wait to see if you get a Orion HCCA152 or HCCA151SPL to compare. MD Audio did a shootout years ago with the silver cone HCCA up against the MTX 9500, Rockford Fosgate Power, Kicker Solo X, JL Audio W7 and others so you can imagine that I'm happy to see the O.G.'s coming back! On another note if you blow the current recone in Part 2 of the testing I'd love to get it from you, I'm working on a Mutant build and need a undamaged Solo X cone with a blown coil, if you wanted to sign it then that would be cool as well. I built a L7S 154 mutant a few years ago and want to do something with a Solo X cone 😆 Also, I hope you and your family faired well with the hurricane weather up there. We're about to get hit by a hurricane down here in Florida..

Great seeing the high score at lower power. Does the subwoofer cost a little more? Yes, however you can achieved the same level of loudness on far less power.

There needs to be more cone area. It would be nice if they ever decided to go with bigger sizes. To focus on more cone area without increasing the size of the dust cap or suspension. If they wanted to take it one step further with the dust cap they could even make it out of carbon fiber. Either way that 15 is a beast and im impressed 👍

@randomtube8226- Speaking of cone area, round subwoofers with a 10" dia.= 80 sq. In., 12" dia.= 113, 15" dia.= 176, & a 18" dia. round= 255 sq. In of cone area vs Square subwoofers with a 10" x 10" cone= 100 sq. In., 12" x 12"= 144, & this 15" x 15" square coned kicker= 225 sq. In. Of cone area= not far off from a round 18"!

Amazing subwoofer ! I have a set of 12” Kicker CVX subs that I bought in 2008 and I have been pulled over by the police a couple of times because of the noise level. They are still working just as good now 16 almost 17 years later after using several different amplifiers on them with the most recent being a Taramps Smart Bass 5 that I bought in February this year. I will have to admit that they were not very happy about that amplifier but they held up regardless. I have since replaced them with a Sundown Audio NSV4 18 that seems to like the Taramps Smart Bass 5 much better than they did. That being said it says a lot about the quality of Kicker’s products when you can beat them to death for 16 years and they still ask for more. Kicker if you see this post I would love to hear from you guys to see what you think about this.

I remember competing in 1992. 300w and down class. Bass amp 25w x 2 @ 4ohm, pushing 2 kicker solo classic 12s, 750w rms each, and achieving over 154db. Id love to see anyone do that today, with under 300w @ 4 ohm. The kicker show truck then had 6 solo 12s and much more power and could only reach 156db. Mind you the record then was 163db, set buy Rockford Fosgates killer suv with over 10,000 w

I've touched and played with all kinds of subwoofers over the years but the solo x by far the build quality, nothing comes even close to me. The thing is built like a tank. I've been pushing 5,000 w to it consistently for over a year. No issues

My only complaint is the shape. Nothing wrong with a square sub but if have to get a box for it and can’t upgrade or change out subs in the future without changing the box. Now I have two fi audio mt15’s I can upgrade to the neo 4.7 if I wanted to.

Should meter on music. I did 145.8 on my Qclass 15 with a Kicker 1800.1 on music at 46hz in my Ford Flex with it being behind the third row. I believe the Solo X should do better.
