Just shared and posted this on Facebook. I don't do what you do, but we are hard working Americans. You totally have my respect. We travel and Always see the cones and heavy equipment. But never pay any mind to what they actually do. We sit around and make Jokes about it. But in reality? These guys need a thumbs up. They have a very hard job that isn't easy. These are the guys that make our roadways and repair those roadways, so we can travel safely and comfortably. Hard work and sweat. While we're in air conditioning? These guys are in the asphalt and heat all day! If ever a New observance day should be made? It would have my vote! That roadworkers and bridgeworkers should have a day of observance to respect what they do. So next time you're frustrated at traffic because of road work? Remember the hard working American that works in the heat all day to make a road to travel!

That was a great idea to spray down your equipment and bucket to keep asphalt from sticking. and the fact that you did it in the work area so the new asphalt wouldn't stick to the old what's a genius move.
@JeffLepard4 жыл бұрын
Yes absolutely! Otherwise that asphalt sticks to everything making work impossible or hard to do! Thanks so much for watching!

Was this going to be sealed in the near future? If it was a long term fix it should have had tack put on the edges and existing asphalt. Another thing that could have been done was milling the asphalt then patch.
@JeffLepard5 жыл бұрын
They were paving that section later on after. Yes tack coat is great to bond you can see me using that on my new channel: kzbin.info/door/E4x9dzt-NuHwlEDuAdC2kQ Milling would work as well but this was just a small job.
@1230richboy4 жыл бұрын
If you grinded or milled the asphalt , you would of made that job even smaller and made the same type of quick repair.. Two 4' by 4' patches, just to cover the oil spots. Maybe just one of your bobcat scoops of asphalt with a 3/8 rock would of covered it.
@MrVadims143 жыл бұрын
Good work brother. I just did a asphalt patch just like this with a bobcat m371 down here in Sputh carolina, do alot of sealcoating also Good channel, keep it up.

What did you spray your equipment with? I was told to spray with diesel but trying to see if there’s a better way
@mikel95675 жыл бұрын
You didn't fix the problem though, you only put a bandaid on it. That oil seeped through all the asphalt as made clear by the large stain shown after you excavated. Oil doesn't stick to asphalt. Unless you cleaned and sealed that oil, the asphalt you put down will start showing damage in the same spot.
@JeffLepard5 жыл бұрын
The base wasn't too bad it's been over 2 years and it's still fine. They will be paving the entire lot soon. I've seen some oil go right through both layers and soaked into the granular which all had to be excavated.

How does long term oil on asphalt damage it. It looks more unslighlty. Really enjoy your videos!
@JeffLepard6 жыл бұрын
Oscar Gonzalez the oil breaks down the properties in the asphalt. Gas is the most harmful to Asphalt. It eats through the asphalt cement and turns the asphalt into slushy rocks.

Awesome videos I'm looking to getting in this business of seal coating and patching how do you know how deep to go when using the saw ? Thanks
@JeffLepard5 жыл бұрын
Unless there is a pot hole or some way of seeing how deep the asphalt is you don't really know. Normally we just sink the saw all the way down. This way you won't have to re-cut if you are not deep enough. If you are running a walking behind saw I normally cut 5-6" down to be sure.

We used to use Diesel, Not any more. Go to Dollar general and get the Cheap PAM spray they carry. We spray in our Hot Box and tools. Way better than Diesel It is good to 500 degrees. (and you can eat it too). Yes it it a few dollars more than Diesel but works like nothing I ever seen.
