Burst out in tears, apologize to her vehemently, hug her for several minutes, and talk through all of their feelings of regret, sorrow, and contrition together in front of the rest of the court? You've been watching too many movies. Anyway, if all that were to happen, you'd just say he's a manipulative sociopath. He can't win in your eyes.

It’s beyond heartbreaking and numbing, this should never have happened- anywhere. Why has nothing changed since this horrific tragedy? Why has nothing changed since Columbine? - as for the inhumane coward, he still finds sick joy in what he’s done. I personally think he should be in shackles, at the very least. There is no punishment great enough for him.

Well then if the opposite is true and person was unkind and brought misery to those around them then their death isn't tragic, even if it was part a a bigger tragedy like a shooting.

I'm not much of a crier, but I've teared up or straight up bawled at every one of these victim impact statements. So much pain, nostalgia, confusion, anger, and regret in their words, even four some years later. They are so brave for facing their raw emotions and opening up their hearts to strangers and to the world. So much respect for these parents and siblings.

She talked about her son and I forgot for a while that this was about something so devastating. I forgot he had passed, and pictured the really nice life this young man led. It was like hearing about my own family. Seeing how a pleasant story hurts his adopted father so deeply is terrible.

What an amazing way to express her love for her son and everything he was about.. for some reason when she said "Scott and I had an unspoken bond, to give advice, only if asked" I got emotional, they clearly had a beautiful relationship.. he sounded like a wonderful person with a huge heart who lived and loved life to the fullest. Imagine being the niece or the nephew of a man like this, talk about luck of the best uncle Lottery then losing him so senselessly. Imagine the future they could have had with a uncle like this. Imagine the impact he would have had on their lives although I'm sure he has made an impact just having been in their lives briefly, it could have been so much more. Scott was his grandmother's Saving Grace after Scott's grandfather passed away, he Scott was her safety net and Sunday brunch buddy. Imagining how lonely her Sundays are now, to me is just heartbreaking. Dear Mom and Dad, you did a great job raising Scott.

Feel so bad for them. 😭 you literally never get over it. My sister was shot and killed in 1994. I remember it like it was yesterday. Still cry sometimes. She was just running inside to answer the phone because she thought our mom was calling. She was only 12. December 26, 1994. Remembering all the random times over the years when my mom would burst into tears and there was nothing this little girl could do take away the pain. This world is something else. But we come. Then we go.

Is that what he said? I haven't watched the video yet. I don't mean this in poor taste, but if those were his words, he needed to practice what he preached. Heroes only make it out of these school shootings if they sneak up on the shooter, disarm him, and start administering a beatdown. Only bum rush the shooter if you've got other people joining in. This is real life, not an action movie

That could have been me talking about my daughter. Absolutely frightening. We're Australian but she's away at summer camp now or 'sleepaway camp' as I now hear it's often referred to over there and she's always dreamt of going to South Africa to volunteer her time working with children. The relationship she shared with her son and his personality, is exactly that of my daughter's also! I cannot imagine living through an experience like this. I honestly don't think I could. These people are so strong I don't know how they do it. 😰

I can’t imagine having him for my son. And I don’t know how these families will ever be able to recover. It’s just so horrific.

I want every single one of these children back for their parents and loved ones.I want to rewind time, and let all victims of school shootings live long , beautiful lives. My heart is broken for them. I want to not fear , and not be torn about sending my child to school or homeschool. Do we as parents take away the school experience and know their safe… or send them to a building that hasn’t made changes to ensure their safety, and pray they come home. My heart is with all parents struggling with this decision. 🙏🏻
