Parkland shooting victim was only thinking about his daughter as he fought attackers

Matt Philips says the only thing he was thinking about when a man and 17-year-old attempted to rob him in his vehicle Friday morning was protecting his daughter.
"My daughter. My daughter was the only thing I was thinking about," he said after being discharged from the hospital. "She's three years old and she was buckled in the back seat."
The incident began when a man and a 17-year-old attempted to rob Philips while he was sitting in his car with his daughter, according to the Pierce County Sheriff's Department.

Attempted Murder is a mindset and its hard to prove. "I missed on purpose and hit him on accident" is hard to disprove in some cases. It just takes one jury member to question/accept that defense plea. Aggravated assault is undeniable........

Other than that its just speculation. It depends on what the evidence can prove beyond a reasonable doubt. The DA has to take into consideration what the defense attorney is going to do.

His neighbour is a hero also, stepping in the help remove the weapon while rendering aid. The gentleman even had a trauma kit which is beyond impressive. I can’t imagine how stressful the whole situation was for him however, I’m sure his actions contributed to that little girl celebrating Father Day with her Daddy. I was a EMT 1 for 11yrs and once while off duty talked a woman down from jumping off a freeway over pass to her death , it was the best day of my life while it was her worst , and the stress you feel in these situations was overwhelming, I remember her vividly , Thank you Linda for not jumping that day . Brother is a hero. He Help while any other won't. Glad the father survived and his daughter is ok. These neighborhood need some serious security upgrade. One deadly B/E happened years ago so my neighborhood is conducting a volunteer armed watch group. Some capable guys, mostly veterans and some active soldiers between rotations who could spare their time. Our local LEO was seriously underfunded at that time so their response time and personnel quantity were terrible.
