WOW! I went to Algonquin Park as a teenager. That was one of the best ever vacations in North America! Your video brought back a lot of fond memories. If I knew you were activating the park, I would have been on the air to try a QSO. I am a subscriber. I clicked on the bell so I can be notified whenever you do another activation. Great video!

Hi David, thank you for your comment! Monitor the Facebook page and the POTA website for news of coming activations. I make a trip to Algonquin at least once a year, so hopefully this will not be my last activation there.

Tracy, great video, I hope to be activating White Lake State Park NH K-2684 this weekend with my 10 year old Cub Scout. Your videos have inspired me to take the hobby outdoors, I purchased the HyEndFed 4 band last year (after watching one of your videos) and love it. With my spider beam supported by PVC (also one of your videos), I will be operating 30 watts with my 857D, I’m a Scout Leader here and have been encouraging our scouts to combine service / remote comms capabilities with the outdoors! I will be doing some other activations this summer with our troop, but wanted to say thanks for being a KZbin Elmer to me... see you on the bands and 73 de W1TEN

897 doing quite good. Satisfied?
@OutdoorsOnTheAir5 жыл бұрын
I've owned my 897D for a few years now. I really, really like it. I have no intention of selling it and buying something else. In fact I just spent $100 to buy a protective hard case for it, and I would not have done that if I had any thoughts about getting rid of it. So to answer your question, I am completely satisfied with it.

Ok great video, I have learned a lot from your videos Tracy, thank you very much ! Question, how does the 3 band HyEndFed vertical perform compared to the same bands but horizontal ? Im in a condo, I can go UP as far as I need, but can not go out, and can use no ground radials.
@OutdoorsOnTheAir5 жыл бұрын
The antenna will work just fine in a vertical orientation. However, you'll likely notice it has a tendency to hear more distant stations better and close in stations worse due to a lower angle of radiation compared to a horizontally oriented installation.

Im curious how the antenna wire is strung. Is. It terminated on the ground and the wire run up to the pole and then down? I wouldnt think that would work.
@OutdoorsOnTheAir5 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your question. Imagine the campsite is shaped like a square. The top right corner is where the end of the antenna is fed (this is where the station is located) and then slopes up to the top of the pole which is at the top left corner. The far end of the antenna slopes down to the bottom left corner.
@WalterMelones5 жыл бұрын
But its one piece of wire? That is really strange! I will have to look up more on these antennas and how they work!
