The V51WW station caught me off guard, plus that was the first pileup I had worked in a few years.

That is pretty epic. Once again you show the mad radio skills.

I am planning on doing some radio time during SuperCel.

@@Overlanding4Fun I would be interested in helping with that to see how it is done.

I can't remember, did you say you had a Yaesu FTM 400? That is a Yaesu 857D on a Packtenna 20/40 EFHW. In the video I was running off of a 20 AH portable battery, but I ran a couple of dedicated 30 amp circuits to the back to power up a couple of HF rigs.

@@Overlanding4Fun that is the one. Got to decide on a antenna mount and where to install the radio.

@@MrOconner10 I have the FTM 400 also in the Bronco, I can post some pictures of my install to give you some ideas. If you are going to be at SuperCel you are more then welcome to take a look at it.

@@Overlanding4Fun I would appreciate seeing your install, I will be at Super Cell at least one day, I live less than 2 hours away so I usually just drive over, it would be nice to see it in person and to meet you too!

@@MrOconner10 I am looking forward to meeting you in person. I am sure I will be easy to find, I will be the only Area51 Gen 6 at the event. 🤣

Thank you for watching. This video is laying the groundwork for some later videos where I am going to suggest people carry a similar kit for primary or secondary emergency communications when off the beaten path. Everyone of the contacts we several hundred miles away with one of them over 7500 miles away in Africa.

Awesome!!! Can’t wait to see them.

Tell me more about your antenna and it’s deployment
@Overlanding4Fun Жыл бұрын
I am using a Packtenna 20/40 EFHW, www.packtenna.com/store/p25/EFHW-20%2F40_-_End_Fed_Half_Wave_20m_and_40m_Antenna.html#/. The antenna was deployed with the balun/feed point tied off to a stump a couple of feet off of the ground and the other end of the wire element tied off to a tree branch running at an upward 45 degree angle. I was only operating on 20 meters, so I did not have the 40 meter extension element connected. I also use inline RF choke to keep the common mode current from finding it's way in to the radio. The antenna is a bit pricy, but it is well built, compact and easy to deploy. I am looking to have something that I can keep in the back of my Bronco and can deploy and get on the air with minimal effort.
