Well tbf the stereotypes on TBBT also have crazy high IQs. Like all of them have IQs over 160. In context an IQ of 130 puts you in the top 2 percent. Their higher intelligence also makes it harder for them to fit in, combined with a childhood of being bullied for being a nerd. While Ben Wyatt is a geek, he is also the kind who can kind of fit into most social circles even if he hates it there. He isn’t shown to be TBBT level bright either. Also the 4 guys work in STEM fields which sadly have a large gender imbalance, which would have further stunted their social development. Ben’s job exposes him to a wide array of people from different backgrounds, and not just physicists and engineers. I’m not a fan of TBBT, this was just my analysis.

I think what I love about Ben is how awkward he is, but when it comes to fighting for/on behalf of Leslie, he is very sure of himself. Bowling for votes he constantly tries to de escalate until the the guy calls her a b***h. Then all bets are off and he punches the guy. When Dave confesses his feelings, Ben doesn't shy away, rather he is ready to look Dave in the eye himself and stand his ground, despite being deathly afraid of cops. And finally, the wedding, when Jamm is drunk, Ben is about to throw down before Ron stops him and takes care of it himself.
