I am using the C10 chain on the Veloce groupset. When at small/small, my options seem to be chain rubs against the pulley, or remove a link and the gap is larger than 15mm, which way do I go? Or is there something else I an change?
@parktool Жыл бұрын
Go with the larger gap. No not allow it to rub.

Good video, thanks! This method of sizing worked well for me with early 90's 7-speed Ofmega components.

Are the instructions slightly different for Campagnolo triple rear derailleurs?
@jeremycottrell13822 жыл бұрын
Does this apply to vintage Campagnolo components? Specifically 6 speed with vintage Super Record from the 70s-80s.
@parktool2 жыл бұрын
Yes it does. Same process.

Hi, does this procedure apply to the older 8 speed components? I have an 8 speed Record drivetrain and a new c9 chain. thanks
@KTM-d7d6 жыл бұрын
Yes, 9 spd chains are also compatible with 8 spd components.

I cut my chain to short as I did not account for the masterlink. The distance is 19 mm. Will changing from 28-11t cassette to a 25-11t cassete solve the problem? As in, is the campagnolo 8-15 mm gap just for smoothness?

Hi, Can I use this method with a SRAM chain with Campagnolo drivetrains ?
@thomaseiler65883 жыл бұрын
Yes - and I hope you did, now that Im noticing the one year span on my reply :-)
@csmnsn2 жыл бұрын
I was able to get within the 8-15mm range on the smallest rear sprocket and the smallest front chain ring, but now the chain is too short to shift onto the largest front chainring. I have 3 front chainrings. I wonder if that's the issue. The chain's as long as possible without lessening that 8-15mm gap though.

I watched 3 separate videos to reach here....... this is madness! All this could be fitted in one "Replace/Install new" chain video.
@dianemattes27147 жыл бұрын
Couldn't get my 10 speed with medium cage RD to get in that 8-15 range. it was either rub or with 1 link of chain shortening I was above the 15mm . Works fine with the larger than prescribed gap.
@iamkleggo3 жыл бұрын
Hi. Excellent viddy. Does this process apply for medium - long cage derailleurs, or are there any modifications?
@parktool3 жыл бұрын
The cage length will not change the process in the video. All stilll holds true.

So what does it mean if the gap is closer to 2cm from chain to chain (1.5cm from chain to cage). There is no sag in the lower chain and all my gears operate quietly and smoothly
@parktool3 жыл бұрын
If there is not sag, and all gears are good, leave it.

Hi, I have a question. I have both a "modern" slant parallelogram campy record derailleur, as well as a vintage campy (1983-84) parallelogram record derailleur (as well as an early 70's NR parallelogram derailleur. My question is, how or what criteria do I use to size the chain on the vintage bike?
@santiagobenites4 жыл бұрын
Remember, if you're using a chain with a quick link or missing link, you may have to remove an extra link from the chain that you're shortening to compensate.

Informative video. Thanks for the info. Do you cut the chain at the same place if using a connecting link instead of connecting by rivet?
@parktool7 жыл бұрын
The finished length will be the same when the connecting link is included, but it is not cut in the same place. When sizing, put in one side of the connecting link to account for its length. Then they become effectively the same for sizing and cutting.
@jamesone60987 жыл бұрын
Thank you. So if I don't have the old chain to measure by I just cut 1 link shorter to account for the length of the connecting link.

Why exactly do we need start routing the chain with the side of the two outer plates?
@parktool6 жыл бұрын
Technically you can start routing it however you find most appropriate as long as the side with the outer plates is going forward on the top. These plates are designed to hold the new rivet. You should never remove links from the side with these plates and the plate should always be on the leading side.
