Bhai his grandfather was a government officer, but father had schizophrenia. So not really rich but not dying of starvation poor. He was poorer than his classmates and batchmates in college. Government College in Trichy. Very cheap hostel. Tamil Nadu is cheap to enjoy travel in local buses, movies and food. He did his MBA from FMS delhi, the cheapest in top 50 business schools of India. 20K for 2 year MBA at that time, when IIM was charging around 10L. That too after working in TCS for close to 4 5 years. I think so he has earned his money well but he was raised in lower middle class structure for sure.
