P-Funk! They had bassist Bootsy Collins in the old days. Their "mothership" is awesome. Also, some of the band members wore diapers (nappies) and underwear. (!!) They were really wild. George Clinton (the band leader in the wig) was da man! Please do more of their live videos.

We used to wear 30inch bells back in the day (bell bottoms) girls wore the hip hugger bells with a big thick leather belt and big buckle with a tummy top. Nobody was snatching girls off the streets in the 70's. Bootsy Collins used to play with them. Im still a funk-a -teer.

Wooooo Parliament Funkadelic!!!!! This perfomance gives me life. It’s wild, chaotic, and in the pocket right all at the same time. I live for that old school Funk. Suggestion: Please do a reaction of Ohio Player’s Ecstasy. The lead vocalist and keyboardist on that tune was also apart of Parliament Funkadelic. You won’t be disappointed.

The lead guitarist is Michael "Kid Funkadelic" Hampton. The one with the cigarette is Gary Shider. RED HOT MAMA was a classic recorded with the legendary Hall of Famer EDDIE HAZEL of "MAGGOT BRAIN" fame. Funkadelic is famous for their shredding guitarist. 5 are in the HOF. Hazel, Shider, Hampton, Glenn Goins and Dwayne "BlackByrd" Mcknight. Hazel classics are "Super Stupid" "Red Hot Mama" "Maggot Brain" " I Wanna Know" "Free Your Mind" " Coming Around The Mountain" "I Owe You Something Good" "I'll Stay" "P.U.S.S.Y." "Friday Night August 14th" "You and Your Folks" "I Want You"(Beatles Cover) California Dreaming" and many many more. Hazel took on a solo career in 1976 after being with Funkadelic since 1968.

Funkadelic was not inspired by Frank Zappa. They were influenced and inspired by Motown, the blues, gospel, James Brown, Jimi Hendrix, Sly & The Family Stone, Doo Wop groups like The Coasters etc. and all of the acid they were dropping.

@@AntwhaleNearfar That's not correct. Yes George was inspired by all those you mentioned but he was also inspired by Zappa. He is quoted as saying "every black musician should listen to Frank Zappa. In 2002, George would often use the horn vamp from "I'm the Slime" by Frank Zappa. The iconic album covers of P-Funk were done by artist Pedro Bell who was a fan of Cal Schenkel work. Cal Schenkel was the designer of Frank Zappa's album covers which was the inspiration for P-Funk album covers. Yes, George was a big fan of Frank and Frank respected P-Funk's work.
@greezythumb
@greezythumb 7 ай бұрын
George had a lot of inspirations and chief among them was Sly Stone. George was primarily an acid/psychedelia guy. Sure they dabbled in doo-wop in their early days but that's what EVERYONE was doing. But that wasn't them and they admitted they just weren't polished for that genre. They were a motley crew of musicians that loved acid and psychedelia and being loose. That was their niche. Bootsy and the rest of the JB's abandoned James Brown or fired. They were great musicians but they were motley also. They met George and they all saw kindred spirits. Bootsy was the one that put the funk in P-Funk. The combination of acid, blues, gospel and funk was mind blowing and history was made. So, yes Frank was an inspiration for George. He loved Frank's music and often talked about him but the two biggest protagonists for P-Funk were James Brown and Sly & the Family Stone.
@AntwhaleNearfar
@AntwhaleNearfar 7 ай бұрын
@@greezythumb You telling me about P-Funk is like someone trying to tell Neil DeGrasse Tyson about our solar system. The doo wop influence on George persisted throughout their career when it came to his vocal arrangements, as, unlike most of their other vocalists such as Garry Shider, Fuzzy Haskins, Glen Goins, Calvin Simon etc., George didn’t have a heavy church background (Frankie Lymon & The Teenagers are what got him into creating music, not singing in a gospel choir). He was also very influenced by Louis Jordan and his biggest inspiration, Smokey Robinson. And anyone who fails to mention the huge impact and influence Jimi Hendrix had on George and P-Funk (mainly Funkadelic), is someone whose opinion about The U.S. Funk Mob I take with a grain of salt. Bootsy didn’t “put the funk in P-Funk” (ridiculous) from JB, he brought The One: a stronger emphasis on the first beat of each measure that George & Co. had prior to him but not as powerful. Just because George was aware of and respected Zappa doesn’t mean he was particularly influenced by him. Frank Zappa tried to get Glen Goins (and possibly another P-Funk member) to join HIS band.

The guitarist in this live version of "Red Hot Mama" is Michael Hampton. Eddie Hazel (RIP) was the guitarist that played on the original recordings of this song from the early 70s (probably 70-71?) as recorded by Parliament. The bands Parliament and Funkadelic are two bands with basically the same members led by George Clinton (the main singer in this song; your Frank Zappa if you will). These two bands (or one band) are referred to as Parliament-Funkadelic or P-Funk. According to me it's one of the best bands in the world ever. Underrated, underseen. I like this live version "Red Hot Mama" much more. The sound is (much!) better and not everyone is high. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mIHMk3qAptFqeqs 🤘

@@aaronblackmonsallfunkedup9119 I heard Eddie Hazel actually preferred a Gibson Les Paul because of the "sustain", but I've seen him with the B.C. Rich. I read it in a very old "Musician" magazine from late 1978( long out of print) probably the only mag who did a feature on the Funkadelics guitarists then.

Parliament Funkadelic is a combination of two groups: Parliment and Funkadelic lol. George Clinton was in both groups.
@greezythumb
@greezythumb 7 ай бұрын
The whole band was both groups, actually three groups. When they wanted to do more R&B based funk music, they recorded under Parliament. When they wanted to record acid/blues/guitar based funk music, they did it under Funkadelic. Booty's Rubber Band was Boosty Collins project which featured the former members of James Brown backing band. They all were also members of both Parliament Funkadelic bands. Basically, George took one large band of about 20+ members and made three featured bands. They pushed the envelope of funk in the 70s. Many other well known bands like Slave, Cameo, Kool and The Gang, Ohio Players often say, they tried but no one could keep up with P-Funk. 😂

that was straight up hard rock not blues rock don't diminish or degrade that hard driving sound , that was the intended effort to show the world where "Rock and Roll" originated but not accepted the only difference was the color of the skin, would anyone classify Jimmy Hendrix music as "R & B ", no, Funkadelic was originated as a rock band not blues band because they happened to be black , Sly & The Family Stone was not considered an R & B band even though they were a Black band, so stop putting black music in a box
