The oposition should have brought up the social contract theory to contrast what the goverment second speaker has stated (that all laws and punishment are degrading human dignity) by bringing the social contract you can firmly state that the people have given part of their liberties and rights to the state in order to peacefully coexist, and it is in the state right to punish those who goes against the social contract of the people, in other words, theres no degrading of human dignity in a contract where everyone needs to participate, however every person already forming part of the state understands this social contract and the consecuences of violating it, by being punished the state creates the justice needed for people to coexist.

Fine point. Please keep in mind that this is a demonstration of what debates look like, and how the rules are applied. Also... so much happens in a very limited time. Certainly, we have to appreciate the pressure and mental stress these "athletes" go through. I believe that is part of the demonstration...:)
