Parmak Solar Pak 6 fencer

This little solar charged fencer has been a trouper though scorching summers and bitterly cold winters. The battery had to be replaced after 4 years, but that's not much to ask. Rugged construction and very reliable. I like the meter since it's a good indicator of grass shorting the wires.

I have over the years purchased four of these and presently have two in use. They are of very good quality and do a great job. I did replace the battery in one unit after three years of use and found new replacement batteries inexpensive and abundant on line, some with free shipping. I am completely satisfied with this charger.

Great video and I agree with what you had to say. We've worked on a handful of these over the years and are typically a lot cheaper to repair one than to by a new one. Great video!

I failed to mention that I am getting 5300 volts on my older unit with the battery replacement. Do not touch the hot lead unless you are feeling sleepy. Works much better than coffee.

I just got me one, and thank you for showing this video and your opinion, I love how you showed hot wire and ground wire hookup. One question, the meter, is that all you go by to see if fence is good or do you also use a fence tester. Mine is covering 3.65 acres.

The meter is sort of an intelligent idiot light. In my case, it usually reads full scale (all is good), or zero (short on the line. I do have a neon fence tester to get a rough reading of the applied voltage, but it's not much better than the analog meter on the front pane.

I don't have horses, but my Parmak does keep deer at bay.

I suspect that a charge capacitor has failed (open). Call the company!

I have not had trouble with the batter in the winter as long as I keep snow off of the solar panel. It runs for quite a while when we have cloudy weather. I do replace the battery every 3 years since they do "wear out". Does this help?

I made a mounting bracket and welded it to the t-post.

Not a good value for the price. Did not work well and dead only after one year of poor service. New cheap brand at Tractor Supply works a lot better and have had no issues for over one year
