I remember this car being put together in the workshop at my first job after school, at Lola. They used the factory as a base during the Silverstone testing week, and they fired it up in the workshop. I stayed 3 hours late after work just to hear this engine run! Gerard Ducarouge, the designer who worked at Lotus during Ayrton Senna's time there, had a lot of input into this car. I remember being an 18 year old kid asking him about Ayrton Senna's driving technique. Happy days!

I don't think there will be a circuit like this ever again, one where you have to brake and stay over 160mph on 95% of the circuit. Fantastic.

@devilscoachman79 I went to hockenheim 2 years ago, nothing left of the old circuit. :( trees have been planted and you'd almost never know it was there. Wondering through the woods, I got to ostkurve, on the banking there was a chair and a marshals post up in a tree.. a little bit further I found the old straight leading back to the stadium section :)

A real circular steering wheel and gear shift lever on the right, nice to see the old style. I'm sure some drivers would like the old style better too. So much extra crap on the steering wheels, some would just like to focus on racing!

From all reports, the Lola cars that Larrousse ran in 1989/90 were just about the best handling car in the F1 paddock. The Lamborghini V12 though was unrefined in a lot of ways but with enormous potential. Sadly it was only towards the end of the Lambo V12's run in F1 did its potential start to show, but only in testing and with a certain A. Senna and McLaren helping to develop it. McLaren went Peugeot, Senna went Williams and the rest is history.

Plenty of teams with a whole mess of powerplants from V8's to V12's, Lamborghinis' to Judd's. Its also worth mentioning that the standard pattern gearboxes rocked, and the cars looked gorgeous. Too bad Bernie will never look back or listen to the fans.

That's F1 in one of it's greatest periods. Manual box, six gears, no electronics and a whacking great V12 lump behind the driver. It was just a 1000 bhp go-kart... I miss those days.

You can see Eric Bernard is an amazing driver. Insane skills. Would LAP anyone on these comments in identical cars within 4 laps. Yet compared to people like Senna and Prost he was a nobody. Supreme skills involved in this old Formula One. Look up Tyrrell katayama suzuka to see what these guys were doing with their feet. Double declutching at lightning speed, hitting the clutch 8 times in shifting down fro 6th to 2nd.
@Fmontes6 жыл бұрын
Agreed. But then as is now, there's only 3-4 teams that can win a GP on any given Sunday. And a Larousse wasn't going to get it done.
@littleinkling46049 жыл бұрын
New Silverstone has lost its aura, its soul, everything that made it great. This is an emence track and Bernie and Tilke have a lot to answer for. They like long straights and slooooow corners because its easier to zoom in on the sponsors.

@the420secrets64 жыл бұрын
Disagree with the sponsors part. Why redesign the track for ‘more sponsor time’ when everyone can see the sponsors anyway.
@littleinkling46044 жыл бұрын
@@the420secrets6 Head-on shots of long straights, with big advertising hoardings in the background, still on screen, make sponsors very happy. Slow corners allow for easy zoom shots (its obvious from the TV direction, even more so after it went in house), and pts awarded to top 10, rather than top 6 legitamise more screen time for other cars... and when I say cars, I mean sponsors. It actually makes it an unwatchable sport for me now. Angles are terrible, and a constant change to show all cars means the race narrative is lost. And yes, i assure you its to make sponsors happy and F1 viable.
