On my very first cruise, way back in 1996, Steve Hites came aboard our Princess ship and sang his songs. I knew his voice immediately! He is so good! I loved this episode and I loved your hike-- so beautiful and peaceful. I plan on doing the same thing on my next Alaska cruise. Well done!

I could sit for hours listening to the Skagway singer!!!!! Love his voice, but would also love to hear the stories he gleaned from the old timers in Skagway. What amazing adventures and stories they must have had!!!! I know I will never be able to go on a cruise, but I can watch others as they enjoy theirs. Thank you for sharing.

As a solo traveler, I would not walk to the falls by myself, even though I enjoy hiking, so thank you for show that gorgeous waterfall. For September, you are making it look so warm with light shirts. I love that baby seal (I think everything is cute too). My favorite is the snow covered mountains. I hope to see lots of snow on my May cruise. Proud of your big hike.☺️

Awww - I LOVED the Folk Singer!! He made me tear up, talking about how the shut-down affected so many of those in Skagway. I enjoyed following you along on the gold rush cemetery trail, that waterfall was gorgeous! Did you ever find out if that was truly bear tracks and poo-poo? You both are very inspirational for staying fit and active. We are hoping to take the train in Skagway, but I'm not sure - is that bridge going to be repaired by May, 2022? Thanks so much for being wonderful friends, Nancy & Anthony ❤ Oh, I needed to come back here and say those photos by Dee were absolutely stunning!!

Great to see some different parts of Skagway - the hikes appeal to me more than the train! To put it simply with the salmon, they are born upstream as less predation. Majority move to the ocean as more food and able to grow larger and stronger. Least that's true for the Scottish salmon! My oceanography degree finally came in use....

As much as I have been enjoying your visit to Alaska, I’ve noticed that you’ve had to find stuff to do. I thought there was at least a day’s worth of activities within the city limits. As an older couple, hiking would be out of the question. I admit the scenery is beautiful, but other than that it seems like a place to take your money as almost every store sells the same stuff. Your trip has made me decide ice cream isn’t worth the trip.
@parodeejay3 жыл бұрын
Skagway specifically? Yes, it's a tiny town and the main thing to do is ride the train, which we did in 2019. That was fun, but it was sort of a one-and-done for us as of right now. Many things were closed this time around due to the shortened cruise season, sadly!!

Nice! For a round-trip sailing, it usually doesn’t matter since you see the things on one side going north and the things on the opposite side going south. The only gamble you take is if the ship does not spin all the way around on glacier day, which is what happened to us on Serenade. We were on the wrong side, but you never really know what the wrong side is!! :P

At our semi-leisurely pace, it took 15 minutes to get from town (2nd & Broadway) to the footbridge, then 20 minutes from the footbridge to the picnic shelter and overlook spots. So I'd say 35 minutes each way, plus however long you'd want to sit and gaze at nature... maybe hour and a half minimum total time, round trip from the "start" of town, I'd say?
