I think they should have saved Twilight becoming a princess until the season 4 finale. Magical Mystery Cure should have been Twilight merely graduating from being Celestia's student, then season 4 finale comes and they give the elements to the tree as usual, the chest appears, they all find their keys except Twilight who is feeling down about what she's supposed to do now that she's not Celestia's student anymore, she gets her key from Discord, her friends go all Rainbow Power, blast her with a beam and BOOM: Alicorn and then she gets her castle afterward. It would be better spaced out and feel more fitting, I mean season 4 barely had anyone address that Twilight even was a princess so not much would change now would it?

Magical Mystery Cure gets pacing issues for the fact it's not a two-parter. 2) Twilight gets the title in S3, but only gets a castle in S4. 3) Defeating Tirek seems to be a more worthy action for a royal title than solving the problem she caused.

I think that's a sin record. Here's another one; The fact that Starswirl created thousands of spells and gets nothing. Twilight corrects his "Spell"ing on one and becomes the sole ruler of Equestria. What gives?

Yes but remember twilight achieved friendship but starswirl didn't and by that I mean that he thought friendship was a weakness but when she finished the spell with a lesson that she learned about friendship, celestia decided to make her a princess because twilight was ready but not starswirl that is why starswirl never got anything like twilight did but twilight on the other hand was ready cuase if you look at the 156 episodes you would see what her friendship with her friends cuased

She was in a musical number. Ponies can do all sorts of things in spontaneous musical numbers that they can't or wouldn't really do because...unless the numbers are started by Pinkie Pie...they don't really happen. The CMC didn't really sing to everypony about their quest for a date for Cheerilee, and that one video game pony wasn't playing an arcade game that that been set up out in the open without even a tent. Cadance wasn't pausing in the middle of her song to leave room for Chrysalis to sing her lines even though Chrysalis wasn't even there. Rarity wasn't singing about her new found Canterlot popularity right in front of the city's upper crust (at multiple events!). And Twilight's friends weren't really talking about what their cutie marks were telling them to because they weren't conscious of the conflict. To them it seemed like they'd just suddenly become incompetent at the thing they were normally great at.

I thought it changed the timeline, so that their cutie marks were different the entire time, from the moment they got their cutie marks. For example, Rarity got the rainbow lightning and cloud cutie mark when she was in front of the giant rock and a rainboom split it open. (Same with the others) So Pinkie Pie was running the farm for years, not just a day, because Twilight altered all of reality, not just her friends. Likewise, when Twilight fixed their cutie marks using the Elements of Harmony, she was slowly setting reality back to how it was supposed to be (before she cast the spell.)

This episode had so much missed potential. It felt like they focused more on making music than telling the story (the songs were all really good).an episode like this really needed to be a two parter to fully develop the story. The mane characters having their cutie marks swapped is such a cool idea! But they just rushed it way too much. I still don’t know what they mean by Twilight making “new magic” when all she did was finish a spell- which we were never told what the affects were. Did the spell summon Celestia to give her her wings? There just were so many unanswered things in the episode that could have been fixed if it was a two parter, Good episode conceptually, bad in execution. Heck, it could have even been an hour long special! An episode that has such a major plot point really deserves better.

I actually think Celestia purposely made Twilight cast that swapping spell as she herself gave Twilight Starswirl’s spell book and KNEW Twilight had the elements of harmony, back when the Crystal Empire returned and Twilight was about to go on her big task to protect it, Princess Celestia had a chat with her sister Luna, saying how “if she does this she’ll be one step closer to being ready” which should give the audience a first clue that Celestia was training Twilight to eventually BE an Alicorn. And the second clue is literally in the same two parter episode. At the very end when Twilight passed the test and the 6 friends ride off back to Ponyville, we see a glimps of the princess sisters carrying a mysterious book as they look at each other, and what do ya know, it’s the SAME EXACT spell book you see Celestia give Twilight in Magic Mystery Cure! Anyway, I hope this clears up a bit of the lost info on this episode, it’s confusing but if you pay attention enough throughout ALL the episodes leading up to it you can get every detail down on how Twilight became a Princess!

True, but anything he could do to keep it going, make it bigger, would hurt Fluttershy. I find it very plausible for him to be conflicted over what he wants out of this situation, and confused by the conflict, and possibly embarrassed by his confusion. He's very new to the friendship thing and all the emotions that come with caring about another person's wellbeing. But it's just as easy to say that he had a bag of popcorn and figured he'd just watch the chaos go about its merry, undirected way.

I just thought that it crossed the lines between dimensions, even though that's an easy way to get around the issue. But really, each of the rest of the mane 6 acted as they thought that the other one would; Applejack worrying about dresses when Rarity's cutie mark and cutie mark talent have to do with gemstones, Pinkie Pie working herself to the bone, Fluttershy just trying to do funny things to make everypony laugh instead of actually trying to make them happy, Rainbow Dash being a doormat to the animals, And, finally, Rarity trying to clear the weather by using her own interests; Rainbow clears the sky using her speed, but since Rarity's interest is fashion, she uses that on the sky instead.

Angel may be mute but he seems to be just as smart as a pony. He just cna't speak. (But he is a bit of a prick so maybe he was fucking with Dashie for lulz?) Weather ponies are very specifically NOT in charge of the sun (that is Celestia though presumably Luna or even Cadence at this poitn have the raw power to do it if they want) so no amount of Rarity screwing up should have caused sunburns, certainly not over the course of one day. And weather is scheduled. No snow today means no Snow so why was Rarity making it snow? (Also why have Weather Ponies. Rarity can apparently do the work of the entire weather crew alone. Which shatters the story we're told about Hearthswarming. I mean at most the Pegasai are needed to get water back up into the clouds but apparently not to rain.) I love the show but this episode is a mess. Unless you're right and Twil effectively "shunted" them into the universe next door.

I like my universe theory, but maybe it was something /similar to/ a nightmare, where it showed the long-term effects of the five of them being in other places as they were: Rarity has refused to allow anypony else to change the local weather, and perhaps caused some sort of global warming to the area, applejack and pinkie pie both refused to go back home, the townsponies are angry because pinkie has been gone for so long, and on and on. Everypony has pretty much just gotten used to this by now, and Twilight having to fix the spell at the end is because that's the only way back home; if she hadn't done that then the long-term would be changed as well, such as with the apple orchard. This having been the world we know and love also plays a part in everypony knowing pinkie and being super happy that she's back, since she had apparently refused to do anything funny or make anypony smile while she was so busy with her work.

I STILL can't get over not only Princes Flurryheart, but the fact the Celestia and Luna HEAVILY implied they ascended into alicornship. Yet... They have lived thousands of years. I realize you're a troll but you say "there we just 2 princesses/1 princess at the dawn of Equestria, it was Celestia", which is also not canon. The founding of Equestria was explained in Hearth's Warming Eve, by which the sole princess in the founding party was Princess Platinum, a unicorn who wasn't Celestia. Celestia and Luna's arrival in Equestria is most probably linked directly to Discord as in the flashback neither of them were wearing their royal regalia. Anyways, I explained why I was upset and it had nothing to do with the book/comic canon. The writer who spoke about Twilight was a SHOW writer. I suggest you learn to either read properly or actually learn how to troll people correctly. And no I'm not replying because I'm actually mad, I find initial interactions with trolls who fail THIS hard exceptionally amusing. Nice try buddy, try harder next time.

The way your reply was written sounded like trying to bait me into being angry, which is what trolls do. I love Princess Twilight, and I actually enjoy the episode a lot. I was being sarcastic when I said that stuff about being in agony, the writing sometimes bothers me but not that much at all. I wouldn't still be a fan if it did lol. They do their best and honestly Litteshy said it himself, the first draft of this episode was written very differently. I blame a lot of the inconsistencies on Hasbro putting pressure on the writers. Princess Flurryheart was probably Hasbro telling the writers "Look, we need another alicorn to sell toys". I predict they've long since wanted a baby alicorn, I remember when Princess Skyla was a thing. But yeah, the people who go on and on about how Twilight shouldn't be an alicorn are pretty annoying. It's find to note like the decision, but it's been over two seasons they really need to let it go.

The old (unicorn) Twilight is the sixth white star while the reborn (alicorn) Twilight is the seventh pink star in the middle. The only rational explanation I can have for this episode is the most of it didn't actually happen, it was just a simulation created by the spell as a test for Twilight. Twilight actually exploded the first time she cast the spell, and didn't unexplode until after she completed it.

let's see, the season directly after this one has around two episodes that actually make any use to point out the change in twilight's social standing...but then kinda goes nowehere with it. In fact, twilight does NOTHING she doesn't do normally (outside of attend major politcal events...as a glorified greeter, and you'd think her status as Celestia's personal student would have about the same effect anyways), and the season after despite mentioning it a fair bit still doesn't do anything with it (hell, despite factoring into Starlight Glimmer's original plan, by her return in the finale it has no meaning to the conflict at all). at the very least, season 6 seems to be using it to give Twilight a desire to follow in her mentor's footsteps. Ultimately, what does twilight being princess actually MEAN? what does she DO as a princess?
