Yes! This did once AGAIN felt like a series finale! All the old villains came back in alternate timelines, reforming a new and dangerous villain and Twilight now teaching her the error of her ways, and the shot at the ending is like them saying "goodbye" to us. Thank god we'll actually have 4 more years with these magical pastel colored ponies we all know and love! Although IMO season 6 was "meh"... can't wait until next season 6 of Cinemare Sins! *ding!*

My guess is the salve was meant to cancel a changeling's disguise (exposing their true nature,) and the glow was just a side effect of Twilight and Spike being from an alternate timeline (as their nature was more true than anyone else in the area.) I'll reason that the glow faded as the group walked further away from the friendship map, Twilight's only connection to the OG timeline.

I think every season finale was conceived as a possible series finale, some would've just been a better fit than others. I mean, many thought "Twilight's Kingdom" was the perfect stopping point and I'm one of those ones who would've been happy if they ended at "Shadow Play". It's still possible that the changing of the guard in this season affected this episode, and many others. Anyone else remember "Cutie Mark Magic" that was being promoted at the time?

I always thought it would’ve been cool is Starlight didn’t have a cutie mark, and that’s why she was traumatised enough about Sunburst basically forgetting their friendship after getting his to do all that crazy cult stuff. It’d be really neat if that’s why she controlled her village with that specific method, and maybe it was her grudge holding her back from finally getting her own. They touched on marks causing problems for the recipient before, but i feel like it could’ve been really neat to explore that worst case scenario every filly probably thought about growing up: Maybe you never will get your mark.

That was actually probably one of the better ones. Sure she is an evil dictator but honestly I don’t think she actually is enslaving or hurting the actual ponies. I’m betting as long as everyone just lives by her rules she wouldn’t bother them. While all the other villains would have either hurt or killed them. I’m sure Chrysalis and Tirek wouldn’t care if they killed all the ponies. While Discord and Sombra probably wouldn’t kill them, but they would still probably make them miserable. Then you got Flim and Flam, yeah let’s ignore that one, they’re a joke. But yeah I honestly think Nightmare Moon was probably the best of all the timelines shown. Both the most interesting one that make for a spin-off of its own. And just in general for the ponies survival. But honestly I would actually like to see a mini series or at least movies about all these timelines!
