@g.waldmeister18516 жыл бұрын
It's a big LED screen on top of an apartment building where the wall used to be (well, not really the wall, the Hinterlandmauer but that's probably too technical for now). In 2016 this was done to show solidarity with the Turkish opposition against Erdoğan and to strengthen unity among Germans of Turkish descent and the rest of the public.
@camilopibi6 жыл бұрын

I have good impressions about Berlin as a global city :)
@g.waldmeister18516 жыл бұрын
Yeah, well, it has pros and cons. Many young people from Spanish speaking countries (especially Spain) have come to Berlin because they didn't see a future at home with youth unemployment as high as it is. Other than most capitals of the world in the last ~70 years Berlin was not the engine of economic growth in the nation but due to the split was dependent on money transfers from other parts of Germany. So with wages not as high as they are in South and West Germany, the cost of living wasn't as high either. Now you have expats from places like New York coming to the city and of course they laugh at the average rent prices. Say, they are here on a two year assignment from a big tech company and of course earn much, much more than normal Berliners do. So they move to those hip, urban "so Berlin" areas and push out the people who lived there for decades, who actually made the "Kiez" what it is. What I'm trying to say: Berlin is really fun and seems like anything goes, but gentrification is out of control and born and raised Berliners like myself have now become the minority because a lot of us simply can't afford to live here anymore. Berlin is far gone from the adventurous spirit of the 1990s and it is turning more and more into a normal, boring Western city like New York or London with all the same shops everywhere plus tourists getting drunk and behaving like they're on a playground for adults. As for the Spanish speaking people, well...what I don't understand is how loud they are. I'm sure it's a cultural thing but when you are on the subway it feels like they're yelling at each other despite sitting across from one another :D

It's already hard to envision a better rock album this year. At least, the two official releases have set a lofty bar. I haven't heard such upbeat music from A. Savage since Fergus & Geronimo and Teenage Cool Kids' first two records (which I urge anyone who hasn't to check out), even though the subject matter might not be so joyous, tongue in cheek implications aside!

Ive been a backpacker myself and have visited Berlin twice. It's an awesome city. The best in continental Europe, IMO. I think the clip captures perfectly the vibe of the city and its weird visitors (Adam Savage on the clip and myself in 2014 and 2015): -Eating doner kebab in a sloppy way on the streets -Walking through badly lit streets (it seems that Berlin people and public services dont care about good lightining on the streets at night. haha) -Talking on the phone to someone -Taking the U-Bahn with the Brandenburger Tor patterns on the glass window -Having trouble using the paid laundromat -The weird/cool bars we can visit, where you can have so many beers and make Berlin literaly get blurry. (I dont know if this is the meaning of the song) -Being an awkward foreing person trying to enjoy the city, but sometimes not being able, cause you are just too shy and awkward.
