Hi Phil, excellent video. It is absolutely fabulous seeing light rail trams running in Parramatta. Especially since the previous tram system there, which was steam, disappeared after its closure in March 1943. Incidentally, how far would the Parramatta train station be from the Metro station, or do they share the same location? I am now wondering if light rail will ever be introduced to Kogarah, reviving some of the former tram memories there?? Kogarah had a steam tram system until 1937. Anyway, take care. Rob in Melbourne Australia.

The trams don't have the floor based power sources on the floors or an overhead wiring.. Do they run on battery like the Newcastle ones?

Saw another video of the trams along the carlingford line segment. I thought the speed they were moving before was going to be their service speed, but they're moving more than twice as fast now. Good to see.

Hi Phil! I saw the Parramatta Light Rail test today as well! Also in your next video can you do a video at epping?

They must've only done it as far as Ngara because that has a crossover. Let's give it a month before we see an increase of more trams testing between Rosehill & Westmead

I was at Prince Alfred Square when it came past to Westmead, then caught it coming into Westmead. Then I was at Fennell Street when it came back. I do feel there’s a bit of excitement in the air now that they’re testing during the day. People can see final product now. I can’t wait until it’s ready to go

Is the Parramatta light rail running like the Newcastle light rail? Where the trams charge at the tram stop

How far is the tram stop from Parramatta station? Is it called the L4? If only you could get on a tram! Watching your video makes me want to hop on one!
@patrickc2115 ай бұрын
There’s one on Macquarie Street around 200-300m from Parra station, and it looks like it’ll be called L4, but that could change if they add any more near the city

Is the Parramatta Light Rail a bi-mode train like the CBD ones as I noticed the pantograph was not raised and if so I was wondering how it gets power on this section of tracks?
@ozzyace715 ай бұрын
There are other sections in the full route that have overhead wires feeding electricity into the tram to enable wireless sections like this one.

Good video Phil! I may be an out of Towner (but grew up near Parra). I thought this light rail was meant to be open more than a year ago?? Is there a date when passenger services will commence?

The sections of the line through Parramatta CBD are wire free - the trams run on battery power

Hey when you pointed out about the signs you realise people will still ignore the signs and walk around with there heads buried in their phones, there will be a lot of near misses I predict
@aussiejohn58355 ай бұрын
Hi Phil 👋 I really enjoyed this video, but I worry for the safety of the Parramatta plebs who are not yet accustomed to having trams running through their city. I can envisage the population falling heavily onto the light rails and feeling a little "run down" after their inevitable confrontation with a rather heavy light rail vehicle. I think some protesting will happen after many citizens will find out that being run down by an electric tram is a rather shocking experience. The trams will, of course, raise their pantographs occasionally in order to counteract their loss of power over the situation and to get all charged up to defend themselves against the protesters. I hope the whole project stays on track long enough for you to capture the opening ceremony, after which you can have a well-deserved coffee or two. I am disappointed that you won't be at Crows nest because I was hoping to meet you so you would know the idiot that writes these ridiculous comments 🙄 😑 😂. Great video. Well done, Phil 👏 👍
