This is horrifying to watch. Raw sweet potato is difficult to digest, it contains a trypsin inhibitor which disappears when cooked. It HAS to be cooked. And celery is a no no. De-stringed or not it can still cause a crop impact, it's a case of risk over benefits. Why give them something with a risk when there are so many other things with zero risk and provide the same benefits?

Love your sweetie birbs! ❤ What a great Chop! Made it look so easy! One question...i have read that celery was not good for parrots. Whats your thoughts? Thanx for a great video!

I was thinking the same thing!! Love the video btw!! But i heard to destring the celery and apples need to be given sparingly due to the huge amounts of sugar but im still learning here.

How do you store your chop? I have a pineapple green cheek and am afraid if I make a big batch it will spoil before he has a chance to finish it all

Just found this channel and subbed! I was wondering what veggies you cook, and how you cook them? Thanks!
@MizzysParrots7 жыл бұрын
Lauren Kelly I mainly use green beans, carrots, broccoli, bell peppers, and peas. certain veggies my babes prefer raw (carrots green beans and peppers) but the others I just boil or steam!! do not over cook because this significantly decreases their nutritional value! another thing that's handy to do when you don't have the time to cut up raw produce... take frozen chopped veggies and microwave them in a small bowl of water for 2 minutes then rinse with cold water and they are good to go!!!!

Just curious. Do you know where the "Chop Concept" came from?
@mizzysparrots48746 жыл бұрын
Not sure! I would assume it's because of the foraging concept. Birds love to forage for food, so having a "chop" which is just a mixture of chopped items is a great idea. Its nutritious and exciting for them!

Which veggies do you cook and which can stay raw?
@MizzysParrots6 жыл бұрын
It all depends on the bird :) There's no rule about cooking versus raw, just a matter of preference!! For example, Sir William absolutely will not eat cooked green beans or carrots, but he loves cooked peas and corn.

Why do you buy crackers to scrape the seeds off, why not just use seeds without eggs-crust/ honey/ sugar etc.? I would understand chop as the opposite of parrot junk food such as these crackers.
@MizzysParrots3 жыл бұрын
they were not crackers, they were parrot crunch sticks... which are parrot treats.
