I found a neglected irn parrot in a pet store and bought it because it was depressed and picking her feathers .. she was in small cage and didnt know jow to fly when i first released it in my room .. but i dont know what to do to make her feel better .. 3rd day in my house and she still picks her feathers and wont let anyone near her except to hand her food and give her water .. she screams alot calling my cockatiels but they are scared of her so we keep them in separate rooms ..she is eating very well and not very picky but other than that i dont know what to do can someone guide me please 😢

saw your message immediately and knew I needed to come over here and try to help. I'm sure you're feeling a little hopeless, sad, and stressed. For everything to do with Cockatoos (because they are Nothing like other birds), I highly recommend absorbing every bit of Don's knowledge (from the Chloe Sanctuary), he specializes in educating people about Cockatoos in particular. There are SO many things to know and factors that I personally wouldn't know where to begin. So, below are a couple of playlists of his to help you get started. I hope you find them helpful On Plucking ➡ kzbin.info/aero/PLXbiZWVqA_7UlX-v_gak8gurr_NDoOq2v On All Things to Know with Cockatoos ➡ kzbin.info/aero/PLXbiZWVqA_7WjZIF7FtfCTd3tBS4K2M1N Best Wishes and Thank You So Much for taking in a species of bird that most people would run from

oh! one thing that popped into my head that is really important and can help. Cockatoos are extremely dusty and require misting showers at least a couple of times a week. They usually love them, but if your new buddy is apprehensive about it, you might try to gently shower him/her while they are in their house (cage). There are multiple reasons a parrot will pick and pluck at their feathers. Outside of any ruled-out illnesses, it could be a developed behavior due to psychological trauma, and also feeling uncomfortable (too itchy and dry). Regardless, I can't stress enough how important showers are :) hope that helps (along with the previous comment I left earlier).
