Magical production. Levine, Jerusalem, Weikl, Waltraud Meier et al were extraordinary. I was in the Chorus for every MET Parsifal between 1977-2001.

I saw this production in the 80s but the Girard production of 2013 was EXTRAORDINARY. It was simplified and focused on the ethereal music and its symbolism.

Ah-teutonic angst at it's best. I actually bought this from the Met collection and have enjoyed it immensely. Superior performances all around and never a better Kundry have i seen.

Dans cette captation, on peut reconnaître - dans le rôle de PARSIFAL - celui qui fut l'un des plus grands ténors wagnériens des années 1980-1990, à savoir l'allemand Siegfried JERUSAMEM, aussi bien à Bayreuth qu'au MET de New York, etc... Il était capable d'interpréter aussi bien LOHENGRIN que PARSIFAL (comme ici) ou le personnage de heldentenor de SIEGFRIED pour le "Ring"...

@@fabptitpom Selon ses propres dires, Siegfried Jerusalem ne voulait pas chanter Tannhäuser. Ce rôle est considéré, avant Tristan, comme le plus grand défi pour un ténor héroïque. Il ne se déplace constamment qu'autour du passagio (notes mi, fa, fa dièse) et est en outre très aigu. Les finales du premier et du deuxième acte sont des chevauchées de parade qui tuent la voix. Jerusalem a toujours eu des difficultés avec le passagio, c'est pourquoi il n'a jamais très bien réussi le chevalier Walther von Stolzing. C'est aussi pour cette raison qu'il a reculé devant Tannhäuser.
