MaryDILF thanks for the compliment. I am front of the line on the right and want to let you know that nearly 30 years later our line has done quite well. We are blessed to have doctors, lawyers, corporate execs, journalists, professors and entrepreneurs among us just to name a few. For those that inquired, we did indeed "WIN" the show that year and reclaimed the step show trophy for Alpha Chapter after many years of defeat. Sorority membership is a life long commitment and many of us are active throughout the country still serving our precious AKA and mentoring our younger Sorors.

Yes. This is how we did it back in the day. As soon as I saw this video, it brought back memories of me and my AKA Sorors at the University of Washington (Seattle) performing at the Step Shows. 😊💗💚

Watching this almost brought tears to my eyes. As a proud alum of the Real HU Howard University this is truly real history. 104 years later and still stepping in skirt suits, heels and akatuide. I love it !! S/o to the Silver Stars 87
@TrueIvy8612 жыл бұрын
I did cry because it brought back memories of how much pride we had as new members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. To all my Silver Sorors of 2012, we have so much to be proud of. This is the kind of legacy that the younger members should want to leave behind.

This is ONE of the ONLY times where I seen them dress so classy and chic, love this sorority though but THIS STYLE needs to be returned. They look absolutely refined and ohhhh soo elegant. I know times change and it’s more modernized now but THIS IS WHAT I WANT TO SEE. This is how AKA’s should look to me! I am SPEECHLESS at their impeccable style here and this performance was MIND BLOWING to say the least. God bless the lady who styled them!!!!!!!!

Linda Looney Bond I subscribed to you page! I love seeing the golden days. There was more class and elegance then. The AKAs of today do exemplify that, but we seemed more adult in our time. I crossed in 1995, APhiA

@@LawrenceRoss1906 Greetings and much respect to you for your book "The Divine Nine: The History of African American Fraternities and Sororities". I'm writing this comment in August 2024 when Vice President Kamala Harris is the Democratic candidate for United States President. I very much look forward to her being elected as our President. For the historical record, Kamala Harris became an AKA in 1986 when she was a senior at Howard University. This is a video of the AKAs' portion of the1987 Greek show at that university. Linda Looney, this video's publisher, posted this comment in 2021 in this discussion thread "...Kamala's line (Spring 86) pledged our line (Spring 87). As the neophytes in '87, our line performed in the Greek Show that year, and Kamala's line, along with other sorors helped to prepare us for that performance." end of quote. (Thanks Linda for publishing this video and oosting that comment.) My interpretation of that comment is that Kamala Harris isn't shown in this video and wasn't directly involved in this 1987 step show. However, this video helps people visualize the type of step show that our soon to be President of the United States participated in when she was a student at Howard University.

We are so proud of Soror Kamala!!! Kamala's line (Spring 86) pledged our line (Spring 87). As the neophytes in '87, our line performed in the Greek Show that year, and Kamala's line, along with other sorors helped to prepare us for that performance.
