Went to the range for the first time with a new, never fired, Springfield Saint. Not an Edge or Victor. Just the plain Jane Saint with a Romeo 4H 2 MOA circle red dot a Juliet 4 magnifier and Strike Industries extended left latch charging handle. Move rear iron sight back one slot, to the rear most position to accommodate magnifier. Extended charging handle added because I noticed rear of magnifier is awkwardly positioned just above charging handle. Removed upper from lower. Disassembled BCG lubed with white silicone gun grease. Lightly oiled trigger assembly and barrel. I was taught in 1973 run M16’s wet. Shot correctly stored five year old green tip ammo I used for a mini-14. The Springfield Saint did NOT HAVE ANY failure to fire or cycle in seventy-five rounds.

I’ve had mine for over 2 years and I fire a combat load twice a month at the club… It’s a workhorse and it’s been flawless with all 5.56 and .223 ~ But these things can happen… I’ve noticed in failure/review videos that most bcg’s look dry… I’ve always run my rifles damn near wet with few issues in 10 + years of consistent shooting… Peace ~

ok so I just got my rifle back from springfield and now it works how it's supposed to lol. I called the tech at springfield and he said there were machine marks in the chamber..... he stated that they polished them out and now I should not have any problems. when I received the rifle and pulled it out I noticed that the castle nut on the buffer tube was very loose so I had to tighten and re stake but other than that it's fine now.

I have this exact problem happen to me about ever 200 rounds! However in my case it is a bad round causing it. The reman bullets I shoot have a lemon every so often. To fix this or get the bullet out I have used a brass punch with a hammer applying 1 or 2 solid taps on the bolt in the direction to open. After a few taps, try extracting the bullet using the charging rod again. Has worked every-time for me. After 1000 rounds this has happen to me twice now and really appears to be an ammunition issue not gun.

I own two of these. I have friends who own them as well. NEVER had a problem. Never had a misfire. Never had a jam. Send the damn thing back and get another one. It is a fluck. The other part of review is just fluff. Other people's opinion of their rifle has nothing to do with your malfunction. I regretfully have to say that I am not a Springfield Armory expert like you. The only other Springfield I have had experience with was an M14 in Marine Corp boot in 1970. We did not get the opportunity to give our opinion about the weapon or call customer service with any complaints at that time.
@onemansworld54988 жыл бұрын
First thank you for your service. Second I agree its a Fluke Third back when you had your Springfield experience in 1970 Springfield was Springfield from Springfield Mass. that closed its doors in 1968 . I then had to beat the charging handle back on the last jam and it snapped the end off. Cabellas is sending it to Springfield for me. The guy thought i didnt lube it before i shot it. I shouldn't have to.

I have almost the exact same problems with my saint as well. I purchased it and took it to the range two days later. Loaded a full mag of .223 and everything went smoothly. Next loaded some 5.56 after the first round it jammed. Charging handle wouldn't pull back and was stuck like yours. I had to get someone at the front to pry it out with a screwdriver like you said in your vid. I field stripped it and noticed that each 5.56 round that I tried to manually slide into the barrel either barely fit, or did not slide all the way in. To me it looks like a have a bad batch of 5.56 ammo or there is a malfunction with the barrel of the rifle but I'm still a novice shooter and not too sure. Will post video if asked EDIT: before people bash me saying that .223 and 5.56 aren't the same... I KNOW THAT. The Springfield Saint is supposed to be chambered to fire both
@onemansworld54987 жыл бұрын
You very correct 5.56 and .223 are completely different, but very close. Springfield has made a bad gun or at least a bad batch of guns. the tolerances are to small for the calibers they designate to shoot. I would post a video. people need to know what they are risking buying these sub-par guns. thanks for watching and commenting

Update on my St edge 556 16" At first I did have a few malfunctions, rounds hard to chamber with charging handle and failure to eject. I found putting a few drops oil on feed ramp helped the issue. After about 600 rds it feeds flawlessly and haven't had any issues since. I did have one trigger assembly pin fall out but Springfield send me 2 new ones customer service was great. I have no regrets.
@innonativeoutdoors8 жыл бұрын
My first AR15 did the same thing as well. Stuck cases in the chamber after I fire. I had to buy a vehicle antenna, saw off the ball end, and use that as a ram rod to get the charging handle and case out of the chamber. I then started oiling my ammo and that helped. Sin enough it just stopped. I suspect the reaming tool that was used to chamber the barrel was meeting its end or wasn't sharp. That probably left ridges and/or a burr from machining. If Springfield isn't going to do anything, I suggest you take it to a gunsmith and get the chamber polished.

I am dealing with a new 9mm EMP 4 CCC that has issues. Light primer strikes and ftfeed mostly. Sent it back, I’ll skip the poor customer service part, they replaced the slide and barrel. That made the issue worse. Every other round was a light primer strike. I read the older EMPs had these issues, but assumed they had it figured out by now. It’s been back at Springfield again for over a week and I have not heard from them yet. They seem like it’s no big deal that a $1200 pistol performs worse than a hi point.

I'm laughing about these anti Springfield comments. I've owned everything from Olympic Arms to Daniel Defense. My Springfield Saint Edge is flawless. My brothers Saint is flawless. The M1A is still the same battle tested rifle, along with the Springfield 1911 pistol. I have seen all makes fail at some point or another. Most are operator error, and then like this guy, you get a factory defect.
@mattbrown89316 жыл бұрын
just had the EXACT same issue with my saint i just purchased. had NO idea what the hell was going on, and after watching your videos didn't want to have the same problem with their customer service, so i decided to pay to have a professional diagnose it so instead of having Springfield try and tell me what was wrong, instead i could be the one to tell them what was wrong with my rifle to get it taken care of as quick and easy as possible. when the gunsmith looked at it, he couldn't find any issues and it shot and cycled through PERFECT. pissed off, i went down to the armory to show him what was happening, and of course it worked perfect. i noticed he was using a different brand of ammo, so i grabbed a box of mine (along with the gun i purchased a 1000 round ammo can). turns out, the saint can be VERY picky with the ammo. your problem isn't with the gun, it's with the ammo. i promise. i was using Armscor ammo (which i've heard from a few people it's a steel case rather than brass, but haven't found anywhere other than word of mouth that says that). tried everything i could to FORCE it to have the same issue with multiple other brands, and could not get it to have any problem. i even loaded up a magazine with various brands and tried both cycling through and shooting, and every time without fail it would jam up on the Armscor round. i was with you on that it HAD to be the gun, and was a little disappointed actually when i found out it wasn't. try other brans, and steer far as you can away from steel casing, only brass. i would agree though, customer service was TERRIBLE every time i called to talk to someone.

It happens sometimes with rounds that aren’t in spec. While pressing down on the charging handle slam the buttstock on the ground. You don’t have to do very hard. The rifle won’t go off. I’ve had problems like this with pretty much all of my rifles. It’s not a Springfield issue but a ammo quality control issue.

you need to slam the stock down as you pull on the charging handle, also typically you want to run your rear sight as far back on the rail as possible. looks like the chamber is out of spec, you need to go to a gunsmith and have them head space it.

sorry to see your having such a problem with it, I have been building and working on AR's for over 10 years it looks to me like the chamber is out of spec, there is no way they put 20 rounds through that barrel, they are full of it. Good luck, I hope they replace it for you,
@onemansworld54988 жыл бұрын
Thanks New2Kendo, You know I've been thinking about it. Mind you I'm just a shooter not a gunsmith or expert by any means, but I took the upper off and dripped a couple rounds in to the chamber before I even sent it in.(I didn't say this in my vids guess I forgot.) but you know both rounds I dropped in the chamber (the same rounds that got jammed) and the went in just fine. so I new it was something else. not sure exactly what. maybe the bcg not aligned with the chamber is what my gut said.
@New2Kendo8 жыл бұрын
you can put rounds in the chamber by hand, that would mean its a carrier or bolt issue. Not being able to see it or get a good look at it, its hard to say. It could the cam pin, cam pin channel, or bolt that are out of spec. Hopefully they get back to you soon, I am interested in hearing what they found to be the issue

I've used no less than 10 different brands and configs of 5.56 and .223 including standard 55gr, 62 gr. Green Tip, soft-nose, and even hollow-points. All told about 1,000 rounds so far, without a mis-feed, mis-fire, or ejection failure. I've only taken modest cleaning thought the 1000 rounds, cleaning carefully several times during the 1st hundred rounds, and then only a barrel swab about every 250 rounds after that. Tore down at 1000 rounds and cleaned house stem to stern. Still works great. My condolences. I hope Springfield Armory service management reads these comments and corrects their procedures and customer engagement for the Saint products.

Brass shavings and brass dust getting wedged around and behind the bolt face ejector pin and spring. Had same issue on a different make AR. Brass fowling of the ejector was somehow allowing the round to fire slightly out of battery causing the case to expand during the beginning of the ejection cycle. This would wedge the empty case very tightly in the chamber while partly extracted. I always had to hammer the empty case out of the chamber. I thought I had a out of spec chamber size. I read about this symptom on a forum with this fix. Sure enough my ejector pin was fouled with brass inside the bolt. Clean it and address what is scrapping the brass. I had no more issues after that.

Had this same issue with a S.W MP. The problem was that I was pulling the charging handle back slowly and releasing it slowly. i saw this exact same failure at the range a couple weekends back. it was a "new" saint victor, but the woman who brought it out said she got it on a deal because it was a tester gun. great gun when it shoots, but every few rounds it would double feed, stovepipe, or fail to go all the way into battery. and that was even after its owner field stripped it and cleaned there at the range
@curtismcallister95693 жыл бұрын
@Ricky Johnson i wouldn't say it's the best made, just based on reliability. after that experience with the tester gun, i decided to keep saving and got a bren 2 instead. and after a year now i still haven't seen any issues with it. in the mean time there are years of forum posts on the saint victor's ammo sensitivity or just plain bad reliability.

I have a Saint Edge, purchased in 2019. I am having the exact same problem. Have shot 2 different types of ammo through it and malfunction after malfunction. The same thing as you - bolt carrier will not come back, round stuck in the chamber. have to do the same as you - take the magazine out and pry the bolt carrier back with a screw driver or something.

Weird, what's the forward assist button do? Ever Hit it forward to seat the BCG? or did you just push it like it's a magic button? LoL.

I would remove the buffer tube and back the bolt out that way. Don't do it with the screwdriver.
@jiveturkey28757 жыл бұрын
Looks like you left your charging handle back when you hit your bolt release. Which can cause that type of jam. Seen it done a few times during my time in the military, which is why you'll hear responses to "mortar" or "slam" it to the deck. Its happened before. The bcg shouldn't sling your handle forward, just leads to problems. I may be wrong but thats my 2cents.

I recently bought a Saint Victor and it did the same thing to me at the range, once. I fired a total of 270 rounds, 250 of .223 and 20 of 5.56. After about 200 rounds, a live round jammed in the chamber and became stuck, just like in this video. I'm new to ARs and asked the range officer what I should do, and he told me to slam the butt of the stock while pulling the charging handle. It came out and I didn't have that particular problem again. I also had to use the forward-assist multiple times to chamber a round after pressing the bolt release. Here's the thing though, I didn't clean & lube the rifle before using it, which is definitely my fault. I only made sure that the bore was clear. That BCG needs to be heavily oiled! Also, I was using reloaded commercial ammo from Ventura Munitions. Ventura Munitions is great, but perhaps it was just an out of spec round? Unfortunately I can't try to replicate the problem now, because the range is closed because of the pandemic. However, it seems like Springfield isn't the only manufacturer to have this happen to. Someone mentioned S&W, Colt and even Daniel Defense.

Yep! I’ve had the same exact thing happen to my Saint Victor at the range! I could not pull the charging handle back! And it won’t shoot steel cased Tula (5.56) for nothing. I had to stop losing steel cased Tula at the range.

If anyone else is having this issue, I bought a Saint victor and had the same exact problem, I changed out bolt carriers and it worked flawlessly, cycled some rounds through it then put the Saint bolt back in and was still tight, then I switched to a metal mag and it fed better. After about 30 rounds my gun works flawlessly

My friend had that same problem on his AR (not a Saint). His forward assist was faulty and was always engaged so he couldn't rack it back. So we had to remove the roll pin for the forward assist and remove it. We replaced the forward assist and now it's 100%.

Very isolated according to you. Won’t deter me from buying this rifle. I have read no other negative reviews. What’s your follow up? Did they correct the issue?

My gun is doing the same thing! I'm starting ti think there may be too much pressure on the extractor spring and o ring because it is tearing the casings up around the primer
@clydewatts89913 жыл бұрын
No you are not the only one that is having this problem, purchased this same gun and it jams or will not eject on at least every third or fourth round. thought that I was the only person with this problem. will contact Springfield and see what they will do.

Neck isn't crimped. I had the same issue with Freedom Munitions. Necks were not crimped and were getting pinched in the barrel bore. That's why it wasn't fully seating and had a hell of a time getting it back out. I switched to crimped ammo and haven't had an issue since.

I had same problem with ruger ar556 apparently it's a common malfunction in the ar platform, retired Marine at range had me slam buttstock on table while pulling charging handle and the round came out.

This jam just happened to my new saint. Pulled on the charging handle and bumped the stock on the floor. Cleared it right up, haven’t actually shot it yet hopefully this just need to be broken in.

Sounds like a quality control miss: tolerance stack issue. Springfield should take it back and supply you a new one.

A buddy and I bought the same gun on the same day, took them both out for the first time together after cleaning and oiling. Different ammunition on both guns (.223 on mine and 556 on his) and we both had multiple malfunctions similar to what he is describing.

I just purchased the saint victor and the very first round did the same and twice after. The only ammo that will go through without issue is Hornady.

When I took my CMMG out for the first time (first time ever using one) the first bullet jammed. Good thing there was a experience shooter on the range. He told me to kick start the firearm and showed me how to do it. That was the last time i had that issue. He showed me how to charge my firearm correctly. Friendly people in Wisconsin.
