my folks are from Shuibei village, (pronounced Soipoi), XinHui, (pronounced Sunwui), myself have never been back.

Good to know! Mine are from the same district (SunWui), but different village. Do you know the Chinese characters for Soipoi? Maybe it is closeby. I assume that it is 水背村。 If it is, then it is close to mine Cixi/Soo Kai, just right across the river. Do you want to go back? I highly recommend doing so for memories. Do you mind sharing your last name in Chinese characters (maybe 趙？）, because our villages are close to each other.

@@ChessandTraveling: sorry, can't read or write, but I'm a big belly Wong and Soipoi is where they all come from, so I'm told. I forget the village where my Mum family come from, there are still family there but my Dad always said everyone had immigrated to all parts of the world and there's no one left but my Uncle when he was a.live took his family back to see the old family home and it had been used as a boarding house....

I see. I see. So your name in Chinese is either 王 or 黃, most likely the latter. I'll try to do some more research later and tell you more information. But the same holds for me -- I only have an uncle in the village who maintains the ancestral house. Even if you cannot see/enter the ancestral house itself, it is worthwhile to see the village and experience the food and culture. I'll make a separate video of how to go to Jiangmen (Kongmoon), the city of your village and my village. That way, you can get there if you want more easily. Hope you can watch it later!

@@ChessandTraveling : yes, it's the latter, my folks used to visit Mum family, (surname Liu), annually when they were alive, but my uncle, (Kau), still visits regularly , this Ching ming, even....

ok, I found some information for you. This should be accurate, but please ask your Uncle for confirmation. Please go to this link: villagedb.friendsofroots.org/display.cgi/village/5436 You will see that your family is from Sun Wui district, Foo Lo Heung Township, Sui Pui Village 水背村, and last name of Wong (黃). You can find the village on Google Maps here: maps.app.goo.gl/da9NidnzZk1yZXbz8 It is right across the river from my village! I'll make a video later of how to find your village using this site.
