This video came up in my feed today and i had to watch it. Myself i am born in Luton in 1970 and moved to Clophill in 1973. I lived there till oct 1977 and now live in Norway. I remember my mother knowing this woman in a cottage on my way to school, she was the witch of the village. She always fascinated and scared me. I remember her cottage as dark and full of old furniture and things. I have heard the stories about St. Marys church before. I liked and subscribed and i am off to watch part 2.

A real blast from the past. In 1970, I was part of a group of girls taking part in a unsupervised orienteering exercise for our Duke of Edinburgh award. We came across Clophill old church. As described ,there were many black magic symbols and evidence of group gathering as well a desecrated graves. The atmosphere inside the existing walls was thick and heavy. No sound of birds or country noises could be heard although they were there outside the church. While fascinated,we did not linger long as we felt both watched and threatened . One member of the group was sure she saw a figure in the tower.I was at a boarding school in Bedford and had heard tales of witchcraft around the area, especially Ampthill where 1 of my nonboarding friends lived and invited me to visit occasionally at weekends. I had not heard of Clophill church until we came upon it that day and even now,40 plus years later can remember the menace and silence within the ruins of that building. I was amazed to see this you tube vlog. Thank you

Wow, can't believe that I somehow stumbled across this video. Back in 1972 I was working as a nanny in Barton-le-clay. I had a friend who would come and take myself and the children out for drives to visit places. One day she asked me if I would like to go see church ruins and I agreed it would make a nice drive and outing with the children. Little did I know the absolute terror that would await me as we entered the lane to the church. I ended up laying on the floor of the car begging and pleading to go no further. My friend must've thought I'd gone mad, but I managed to pull myself together as we neared the church. We did get out of the car and look around briefly. Graves had been broken open and tombstones toppled. We left and never went back; it was truly the most terrified I've ever been and I'm 70 years old now.

That is fascinating, Carole. May I ask - were you already aware of the strange goings on up there? Is that why you were so effected by the place, because you knew the history? Or did you feel that way, even without knowing? Thanks for the comment, by the way. I'm hoping to grow my channel, so comments like yours help.

@IntoTheFog
@IntoTheFog 6 ай бұрын
He did have a ceremony with others present, to re-inter Jenny's bones. As for consecrating the ground, I read an interesting Church of England book recently, that said grounds needn't ever be 're-consecrated' because no matter what happens on them, they still remain consecrated. An interesting thought! Thanks for yours.
@Trabunkle
@Trabunkle 6 ай бұрын
@@IntoTheFog I didn't know that! My reasoning behind re-consecrating the church and tombs was as an act for the black magic cultists to see and probably stop them from doing it again! Kind of like what they did with nailing a stake on the corpse of a person suspected of being a vampire! thanks for the information!
@minanes6549

@@IntoTheFog I think it is the building, and possibly some of its fittings, which is de-consecrated, during the final service of the church, by the Bishop, when it closes down. But if human remains, remain in the ground, unless Home Office permission is given for exhumation and reinterment elsewhere, the ground in which they lie is still considered 'blessed', and any new owner of the property has to negotiate how they are to accommodate the remains respectfully. Should they wish to ever remove the remains they would have to exhume them before the ground could be considered free for secular use.

A friend sent me this. I was at a boarding school just up the road from this church. In summer, at weekends we were allowed to take a picnic tea and walk or cycle around the area. One afternoon a group of friends and I went up to the church. we were walking around the graveyard looking at the desecrated graves and then went into the church. There were black magic symbols on the walls, it was very creepy. We went back out into the sunshine and standing by what I think must have been Jenny's grave was a woman dressed from head to toe in black wearing a black face veil. and black hat. We all screamed and fled back to our bikes, all thoughts of our picnic tea forgotten. When we were in the 6th form our rooms looked out on to the roof, sometimes at night we would climb out and sit on the dormers. We sat looking towards the church at Clophill and often saw lights moving around. This would have been in the early 70's.

It’s brilliant seeing all the images and your filming at the church, Peter. I grew up during the 80s a few miles away and the church had such a terrifying reputation back then! I’ve actually done 3 episodes on the church. The first episode 9 just tells the history. Episode 10 is the paranormal stuff. Then there’s a bonus episode which came out on the 1st Jan this year about my visit there on the 18th December. I lived at RAF Henlow from age 7-11 it’s not too far. I’m now in Biggleswade (podcast is Weird in the Wade so only a few miles away .) My experiences on my last visit were just some pareidolia where I thought I saw a giant standing in big doorway to church. But I then felt I could hear something like chanting. I became very afraid. But I stood up to my fear. When I was 8 I briefly attended a church in Biggleswade where the devil was believed to be very much real and on the loose. So the Clophill church was seen as the most evil place - like it was satan’s headquarters. I think I was experiencing my own fears at the church that day. Once I shouted out loud that I wasn’t afraid. I was fine.

Early in my archaeological career, I was part of a team excavating the floor of an old church (it was subsiding due to coal mining beneath it and the foundations had to be reinforced). First day, the supervisor asked me to draw a section of an earlier church, down in a 1.5m trench. At my head height on top of the trench lay a skeleton. His name plate on the wall gave his name and date of death (late 19th Century). It was covered with loose soil but the cranium was still visible, including some hair and blood vessels. I had to work with my back to it and my skin crawled. Needless to say , I did not, unlike the two boys, eat my Spam sarnies!!

I decided a couple of years ago to visit some of the 'infamous' locations/churches that intrigued me when I was (much) younger. So I've been to Borley several times, including just last Easter weekend and St Botolph's, Lincolnshire amongst others - and I've never experienced anything other than the peace of the countryside. Clophill, not so peaceful despite the quiet surroundings, particularly walking around the graves farthest from the church itself, and I was very aware of the darkness at the base of the tower, it seemed darker than it should be considering the sunny day...if that makes sense. I thought that may be due to the orientation of the church, but still... Looking forward to Part 2!

I never believed in the supernatural, at all. Then I had the misfortune to do some work on an old house in the Leicestershire countryside. I won't go into the details, but what people are saying about Clophill, sounds very similar to my own experience. It was mid-summer, daytime, with other people around, yet, there was a heavy atmosphere about the place. Sunny, yet it felt dark. It was genuinely eerie, not a nice place to be.

Brilliant documentary, many thanks. I was a teenager in the 80’s and towards the end of the decade myself and my friends were driving, which enabled us to visit some of the creepiest places in West Sussex. We’re talking, amongst others, a derelict mental health unit called Roffey Park near Horsham with padded cells and other similar places of the same ilk. Definitely some underground places, notably a WW2 Pillbox, again near Horsham and one thing stands out in my memory… evidence of black magic was everywhere to be seen. Walls had been charred with fire and things like the Lord’s Prayer had been written backwards with pentagrams and burned-out candles everywhere (an old chapel springs to mind). For us it was a freaky adventure because everywhere we went, people had been before us, performed their rituals and then seemingly moved on - we never found anything we considered to be ‘active’. Thinking back on it, it seemed to be endemic that creepy places were used by an army of people for this purpose. Who were they? I have yet to gain an insight into their goings-ons and where are they now? As far as I’m aware, it doesn’t go on so much these days,so why back then? Are they all on the internet? Or don’t even exist anymore as groups because they can operate from their bedrooms with modern communications? I am not against these people in any way if they aren’t hurting anyone but I find it fascinating based on what I’ve seen, albeit as very, very scary stuff, and very well researched/organised and knowledge-based given that there was no internet then, just books and word-of-mouth. Thanks again for the vid, I’ll watch some more 👍🏻

@@Thoralmir Yes I guess so. Depends on how you look at it, I suppose. It would take a lot to hurt my culture and in the case of my comment, nothing of any active heritage, e.g. pristine and non derelict, was actually damaged from what I could see, so no real harm done. Maybe if they wanted to rage a war on culture they would have targeted more visible premises, wouldn’t you think? This makes it all the more odd, and indeed spooky. Please feel free to disagree with me because this is a very interesting subject and very mysterious from my perspective. It is very un-talked about so maybe you or anyone else reading this can share your thoughts and experiences.

@Genis-i7y Sure, ill post the experience, it may sound ridiculous or far-fetched, but it is the truth. This experience has been relayed to ghost voices magazine (now out of print unfortunately and is included in ghost talks by an author who writes books about the three counties hauntings. You can tell by a couple of videos on my account I make films which leads onto this story. So I believe it was probably around 2012/13 I was working with a film production team tasked to make a ‘found footage style’ horror based in the Bedfordshire area. I was hired as a camera man as I had experience shooting night vision for paranormal documentaries, so cutting to the chase, the film was basically a Blair Witch style rip off, with ‘Clophill’ being the backdrop of the narrative. Being involved with paranormal investigations before and because I live only a few miles from the site, I had been very aware of it’s legacy and the history surrounding it’s devilish tales and rituals. It is pretty famous if you live in the county - ‘The Devils Church’ Many of the stories I heard had been embellished or made up, so it was difficult to know what was real and what were just tales, we spent multiple nights up there recording scenes and shots, I had no real fear of being there, but then one night things turned and none of us including myself have returned since that year. In fact the production pretty much grounded to a halt and I left to make something else. One late evening we were shooting a scene where I was filming - I will call her Scarlet to keep her name confidential. Scarlet was in front of me and I was filming in night vision behind her. It was pitch black, very late and it was just the two of us while the rest of the crew were further away to stay out of shot. As we made our way through the dense shrubbey area just outside the perimeter of the actual church grounds, Scarlet went off to her right and took the camera with her to change the shot into a POV (sorry technical details) what this means is, that I stopped to let her get to the end of the scene on her own I just had to wait until I heard ‘cut’ from the director. So I was standing in the dark on my own at this point, a torch in my hand but it was switched off as to not ruin the scene with rogue lighting. Anyway about two feet in front of me, maybe even closer I heard a heavy rustling, like movement extraordinarily close, at first I thought like any one else it was an animal, but a overwhelming sense of absolute terror slowly started to fill my senses I had no real reason to be freaked but it was like a primal fear, not something I can say I have really felt before. It was very raw and real. I looked ahead of me and in front of me was a mans silhouette about 10 feet tall maybe even larger shuffling towards me. Now you may think I was bonkers for doing this, but I did not turn on my torch light, every bone in my body wanted to turn on the light to see who was standing in front of me, but something else was overwhelmingly telling me DO NOT. I still don’t know what stopped me but I am glad I did not turn on the light. I then decided to start to split out of the area, I slowly but very purposely walked to follow Scarlet who was way ahead by this point, in darkness, I couldn’t see where I was going, suddenly this figure just moved straight in front of me blocking my path in an instant, this time I knew whatever it was without sounding cliché, was ‘evil’ I absolutely bolted like a cat, running through the shrubbery cutting myself on thorns etc but I didn’t care I just ran towards where Scarlet was. I heard her scream and fall down, this time she was actually on the grounds near the church, once I reached her she was crying saying something had grabbed her ankle and her arms, and that she saw a white face like an old ladies almost nose to nose with hers when it happened. I helped her up and agreed how the place was off and something was around, it felt hostile, we decided we’d run back to the cars where the rest of the crew was. As I turned to run I felt a boney hand with long fingers squeeze around the top of my arm as I was starting to run, I pulled my arm away fairly easily but it made my adrenaline go so high I think I almost flew back to the car. When we got back to the car Scarlet locked herself in the back and refused to get out. A police car had turned up as police often do patrols up there as kids mess about etc etc. After telling him what had happened, he recounted a story that only a few weeks earlier a woman was scratched up and attacked so bad she went to hospital in shock covered in lacerations, when police asked to describe who attacked her she could only state ‘Nothing, it was invisible I just felt it’ The officer said it wasn’t the first type of incident with a similar ‘invisible assault’ On a previous encounter - two of the crew members during our filming saw a lady in a white dress in the surrounding woods (only a yards from the church) dissolve into thin air and were left shaken. A blast of hot air also hit another one of us one night that it felt like his face was scolded, very bizarre, again in the surrounding woods. It would appear that some of the main activity is predominantly experienced around the perimeter and surrounding trees as opposed to in or around the church itself. The film unfortunately was not finished for many other financial reasons, however about a year later a film crew picked up the project and finished it. It is now available somewhere probably on amazon. I have not been back, however, I was once an ‘eye roller’ with clophill stories but I know for sure somethings definitely up there amongst all the fake stories and tales. Tread carefully if you visit late. Keep an eye on the treeline. Glad to answer any questions.

Terrific stuff! Clophill's always had a reputation for spooky stuff. It's a nice little village though and well worth a visit. The A6 there is also great fun on a motorbike. 🙂

This came up in my feed and I decided to leave kudos to your vocal style. Not overly dramatic but very good ambiance cadence. Alot of these channels I skip past due to their voices but I instantly liked and subscribed to yours. Very well done mate and I appreciate the quality content.

Excellent, a creepy and historic story I had never heard of before. I thought you did a brilliant job with this video and I enjoyed it greatly. Poor Jenny's bones. And Spam sandwiches, how creepy can it get. So yeah, my first time here and sadly for you I have subscribed. Thanks once again.

@@IntoTheFog Well, we avoid civils as much as possible, and I’ll guess a lot is over head in Clophill too. 🤷‍♂️
