This is painful for goodness sake give the man some ventolin! Aside from that, an Incredibly intelligent gent, articulate and sensible as a young man, very well educated despite talk that he left school early, it’s in those early school years where the important basics are either grasped or not. I love that he credits his parents as they must have provided such a loving, home environment that instilled a natural confidence in himself, to be himself and unapologetically does this beautifully. Credit to his parents but also to himself for how he appreciated his background and let it inspire him through the years and decades after this video was made.

Omg I so remember Philip Schofield fronting the NZ music programme Shazam. Boy George is so creative, intelligent and talented. He works with intensity and with so much energy and continues to do so until this day. Love CC’s latest album “Life” and Jamie Hannah & Boy George’s song House of Truth”. George has the voice of an angel 👼

OMG thank you SO much for posting this!!!!! I taped this when it was on in 84 as I was a HUGE Culture Club fan. Sadly someone video'd over it :(. For nearly 30 years I have wanted to see this again, but have never been able to find it. You're a legend. I think this was a fantastic interview with BG. And yes, it is Philip Schofield. He got his start in New Zealand television, and presented a programme called Shazam.

Actually, Jon said he knew it would be this successful just by looking at all the other bands that were out at the time. Also, he played with a lot of bands before organizing Culture Club when Mikey and George asked him to join as the only real experienced musician. He says this in a lot of interviews.

Philip was so young here! You don’t really see very young presenters anymore. Maybe because society is very ageist nowadays. Young people get treated like babies until their like 25.
