Something I'd like to know, how much difference is there between the cars in their AU and BA configurations? Is it just aesthetics/bodywork, or something more? Additionally, what sort of differences would you expect to find on a Supercar that started life as a BA, compared to the AUs that were converted? The way these chassis are reborn and raced over many years is so fascinating and your telling of this story - along with your own unique contribution - really makes this stuff special.
@V8SupercarResto12 сағат бұрын
@@leograae the AU wasn’t able to be converted and raced under project blueprint regulations. They were able to be converted into ride cars and the like, but just weren’t able to be raced. Everything from the rear parcel shelf back had to be changed, as well as the front end from just behind the rad support forward. I’ll cover all this in upcoming updates as we convert the car bask to an AU. Thanks for your support 👍😊

Thanks for the video! The cage has a very elaborate design under the dash. It is interesting that the AutoAction article says the team had already received a Beehag shell (which took another year to build), suggesting they didn't intend to build any more in-house chassis in this series of Falcons despite this being the "best car ever built" by the team! It's interesting to read about "the majority of 2000 FTR crew departing" (over to K-Mart Racing at TWR maybe or Gibson Motorsport?) and the change of engine builders. In hindsight, it was arguably a "mistake" to change the livery in line with the AutoAction competition as the 2000 livery is far more iconic than the 2001 livery IMO -- ideally they could have kept that livery for 2001 and then 2002 as well if the FTR deal had been extended. I don't understand how a team that was a such a powerhouse during the Peter Jackson Racing Falcon days dropped back and wasn't able to keep the edge. Was it too long running as a lower-budget one car team slowly falling behind on development compared to the big teams (despite championship success) and then a FTR deal which by Seton's own admission was not worth nearly enough money to match (let alone exceed) the Holden Racing Team?
@V8SupercarResto2 күн бұрын
@@TassieLorenzo it is an interesting article. FTR3 was the last Seton built chassis. FTR3 had extra bar work and was built to be 20% stiffer. I can’t help but feel it’s all a funding thing, the cigarette money was huge for all teams, and it was never able to be replaced like for like. The Lowndes to Ford deal would have taken a large percentage of ford funding, Mobil followed him ect. GSR always punched above their weight regardless, when you look at the Gibson and Walkinshaw operations of the day. It’s interesting to look back from afar and wonder what could have been done different, and I can’t help but feel it all comes down to the mighty dollar! 👍

I find this era and the earlier Group 3A era far more interesting than the current era to be honest. These days you could put any bodywork on the cars you like - they are effectively advanced sports sedans now and one might argue a bit of an insult to anyone who thinks they have even the most remote resemblance to roads cars. At least in the Group 3A era they were production chassis, albeit obviously with extensive modifications to the structure and aero.
