I have an NC750DCT which I use to commute 110 miles a day. It is so gloriously economical it's almost obscene (100mpg regularly). The bike is plenty powerful enough for my commute which is almost exclusively motorway, and while some people accuse it of being boring I prefer to view it as 'none threatening'. My only gripes are it desperately needs cruise control as there is a vibe through the bars at motorway speeds, and shaft drive would be the icing on the cake. Apart from that the bike is unbeatable in my opinion if fuel economy is your god.

Bib The Boulder 100mpg is very good for motorway riding. I can only get near that on the country lanes with no traffic. But then I am a heavy old guy. Yes I wish they had shaft drive.

Bought one today 2018 DCT model, have got experience of DCT on a cross tourer I owned, though that was very fast and heavy, shaft drive, this is a lot lighter, and once you get the hang of DCT, you will love it, so much more relaxing thanks for video effort 👍

I have a 2015 model, first registered in 2016 only 1600km when I got it. So mine has only one sport mode but I love it. It's a daily driver that is quite fun for a weekend ride and more than capable of long distance touring. I live in Germany so no real chance to really drive offroad but people do. For the occasional green lane or gravel/ light offroad I do it is is all I need. Great bike, amazing value, reliability and the fuel consumption makes long trips affordable

You really put in a lot of effort into this video, much appreciated. Nice touch using the cellphone, it was very informative ! I'm watching since I'm seriously considering getting this bike - as to the paddle shifting, since I've not been able to ride it, I may be wrong, but I've got the feeling that the 'downshift when needed' function will be good for those of us that's used to conventional bikes - other than that I must agree there'd be no point in using that mode as one's main riding mode on this bike, then you'd likely be better off just getting a conventional bike. I'm growing used to this kind of bike just through watching your videos on it ! (Stuck in China until next year July, no chance here of riding it until then).

Thanks for this very educational step-by-step video. My NC750X DCT arrives at the dealer in two days but I’m having it fitted with crash bars, fog lights and centre stand so I’m getting it on Friday. And it’s red!! As I’m a returning rider I’ll also be getting a new helmet because I’m pretty sure my head’s grown bigger since I last owned a bike, which was 5-6 years ago. I’m looking forward to Part 2 of this video; this one actually answered quite a few doubts I had about how to handle DCT. You are a born pedagogist, Exeter Rider. Kudos. One smalll question before I go: Has the bike’s weight been an issue at all for you? Thanks again from Santiago, Chile.
@exeterrider
@exeterrider 4 жыл бұрын
It's great to have you along for the ride Thank you Enrique. The weight of the bike hasn't given me any issues to be honest. It is lumpy but that is what also makes the bike feel so planted. I think after a week or so it will just become normal and you won't think about it. The only time it's a slight issue is when moving it around by hand but I think it will be the least of your worry's with it really. My main issue is the seat becomes uncomfortable but there are ways over that . Ask away any questions you have in the future. It's never a problem and I value your subscription.......Thank you for your kind words. Enjoy your new bike and stay in contact. E.R

Great video..very in tuned with your motorcycle! I bought my 2018 750X Dct with Abs last year and LOVE IT! I have only ridden it in Drive so far but a little bit in Sport 1..theres a little more pull and cleaness in Sport mode meaning if your in a tough situation and you need to get out of it, you can in Sport. But I have been in the Drive and was able to manoeuver my bike...practice riding skills help for sure...I had a manual motorcycle for two years but wasn't really comfortable shifting gears so I got the Dct..this engine type gives me more confidence and I ride for hours when the temperature and weather is acceptable here I Canada😄..thank you very much for this video as I have yet to experience riding it more in Manual and the Sport models..

Hey Kat. I’m trying to find opinions on what this bike is like for smaller riders. Forgive me my assumption that you may be shorter based purely on gender. I’m 5’ 7/8. Just curious how you find it if you’re of a similar size. I’m keen for one of these as a commuter for my first ‘big’ bike. The advantages are obvious but I like the idea of a cruiser purely so I can plant my feet. Any info gratefully received, thanks x

@@brandnewdaddy78 Hi Andrew. Thank you for asking! I'm 5'9/10. I have very long legs and on my bike, I'm flat foot. The bike was lowered a wee bt at the shop where I bought it so this could happen. You may want to ask your shop to do the same for you. Its alot more comfortable that way and better to handle since it's not a light bike. I did test ride a brand new one from a different dealer and that one wasn't lowered. I wasn't flat foot completely on it. It's a perfect commuter motorcycle as well as longer rides which I do quite a bit. It's a fast pick up and go motorcycle. Hope this information helps. Cheers!
@brandnewdaddy78
@brandnewdaddy78 4 жыл бұрын
Kat M thanks for this. That’s really interesting that you’ve got 3 inches over me but still find it better to have it lowered. I assume that’s all done in the forks and rear shocks? Does it affect the resulting suspension?
@summersaroundthecorner5948
@summersaroundthecorner5948 4 жыл бұрын
@@brandnewdaddy78 No not at all! The seat height if lowered is 32.67 inches (850mm). Total height is 1350mm. It's a tall motorcycle. The Honda Africa Twin is taller! I sat on that bike at the dealer and I was on my tiptoes lol. The new height doesn't affect the suspension at all. When I test rode itbefore it was lowered, I didn't notice a difference. There's only so much that can be lowered without it ruining the suspension in the long run. It was lowered for me to be right at flat foot therefore my legs are straight down and not bent. Yes, I'm only a few inches taller than you but those few inches makes a difference how I handle the motorcycle. I had a cruiser prior to this and didn't like it. I was dragging it. Way to small for me. Alot of entry level Cruisers are that way for me. And I didn't want to go into a bigger cruiser as my entry. Heavier, more torque. Wasnt ready with my new skills to be riding those motorcycles. I love the Dct as it gives me more confidence than the cruiser. My hand isnt as tired with the paddle shifters. The paddle shifters are amazing but it's not for everyone. I've gotten teased many times by other bikers because it's a dct that if I cant Ride with a clutch, what's the point? It's a scooter! It's far from being a scooter. It's definitely a motorcycle with a twist. I suggest you test one out at your local Honda dealer and see for yourself if it's for you. You may like it, or you may not. To each his own.

@@exeterrider Indeed they are. Honda did a great job with the NC bikes. I have by now decided that I will keep the NC700S and one day in the future will retire her in my living room. By now I am just curious what is possible regarding the longevity. The bike still runs like day one, compression is great, first clutch no accidents. With a bit of care I guess it will do another 100000 km. Looking forward to complete the first 100000 since there are less then 5000km left. In order to have time to do maintenance without any rush ( don't own a car ) I have also a NC750S, 2014, in its 'teens' with just 21000km. Greatest bikes ever invented since the wheel. Safe rides 👍🏍😊

I used to have a NC700X manual. Loved the bike. Quite low on revs/top-end power. Plenty of grunt until 60 mph, then stops accelerating. I read the 750 is sorted in this regard (to a point). I bought a Triumph Tiger 1050 after that, and it was too much for me. My wife (GSXR600R) always said I was faster on the NC than on the Tiger. But then again, she always said I ride like a princess ;-) Much better feel from the front on the Honda. So go figure. Loved the Benneli 752 review you did. I'm quite hooked.

I even change gear on roundabouts etc using manual it's that smooth.

@stevebolton8471 4 жыл бұрын
I don’t use the sport modes because all they do is waste fuel. Most of the grunt is at low revs anyway. If you want to accelerate hard, snap the throttle open. At that point the gearbox gives you maximum acceleration anyway. If you are preparing for an overtake punch the down change button twice for 4th. The gearbox holds the gear for a few seconds, then when you overtake you will save maybe 2/5ths of a second. And if the overtake is that close you probably shouldn’t be overtaking. The sports modes do affect acceleration if you aren’t using maximum throttle. Then you will see the higher revs before each up shift, or down shifts will happen at higher revs as you slow. When I rode the manual version in Gran Canaria’s bendy roads a lot of the riding was in third. So I can see the use of switching to manual to hold the gear you want in those conditions. But I never use it in the UK.

I could have done seeing this before I had a test ride of one :) I did enjoy my test ride on an NC750X with DCT. It was odd not having a clutch for the first few minutes. After that it was so effortless. I agree that the NC750 is plenty fast enough for the road . It's a very good bike. I like the helmet storage feature. As for the videoing of speed , do you have an in car DVR with GPS ? The one I have logs speed in the video. You could have stuck that on the fly screen somehow :)

Congrats, great video. Seen all your NC750X DCT videos to date. Just one question please. Another youtuber stated that because of its weight at 230kg, it is easy to drop whilst manoeuvring in slow traffic. Should a beginner like myself that is interested in getting my direct access license consider this bike? The dct capability along with the brand (Honda) is my motivation to buy it. Thank you in advance.

Hi Jerry, Thanks for watching all the exeterider videos. Its people like you that keep the channel running and make it worthwhile. To answer your question I would say it's definitely a very good beginner motorcycle due to its easy handling and stable nature, it also isn't too powerful but powerful enough to make you want to keep it for a few years without yearning for more. Is it top heavy? answer is no , mainly due to the fuel tank mass being quite low down compared to most bikes its actually ok. Knowing its a 750 that is a fair size capacity for a bike but the engine is laid flat so that helps. the 230KG seems heavy but that is fully fuelled as well I think so that needs to be taken into account and also check out other 750/850 motorcycles and you will find they are near enough the same weight. Its a bit like when I passed my car test. My first car was a big car compared to my friends but in no time it felt normal and my friends cars felt tiny!! Its a first big bike you wont be thinking in 6 months "I need to up-grade". Thanks for watching ,its great having you on board.

One thing nice about the DCT and slow maneuvering, is that you don't have to worry about clutch feathering, and can concentrate on other skills. You might want to check out the Motojitsu and/or McRider channels for some great skill building activities/tutorials, basic and advanced. But, if you drop the bike, it's not too difficult to lift, even in the woods. Trust me, I know, lol.

So drive is 6000rpm , s1 is 6300 rpm , s2 6300 rpm , s3 6300rpm . I think if you are giving it full throttle then it hangs on ,but if you are taking a bit more time it might change into next gear quicker in drive for better economy. I think you will see a biger difference if you take things gentle, so in a leisurely ride it'll change quicker in drive , but in s2/3 even in a leisurely ride it might stay in a lower gear , so if you need power you are not in a high gear in s3 you are in a low enough gear ready to go . Am i making sense ? It looks to me if you are giving it throttle it'll rev up to 6000sh whatever mode but taking your time it'll jump up through the gears quicker in drive / s1 . Maybe i need to see pt 2 for all to be revealed?

@@exeterrider thanks for reply it's always interesting this sort of test . I am only guessing at what was happening. My thing if you like , is hypermiling so I'm always interested in the max mpg rather than max power/ speed. I think I'm in the eccentric category lol . ps ; i think your bike would do very well hypermiling. It would be interesting just how much miles you could get , and how much time you save / lose , hypermiling- normal riding ! Just a video idea lol .
@norsefalconer
@norsefalconer 4 жыл бұрын
@@robduncan599 You can check out the 700x forum for mileage reports. It's been awhile since I was on there, but last I saw, 71mpg (25kmpl) was fairly common, and I think one rider posted 80ish (34kmpl). I avg about 66mpg (28kmpl), but I'm a bit heavy handed and have hard panniers. In 'D' mode, with a relaxed throttle, the bike will be in 6th by 30~35mph (48~56 kph). But, what makes hypermiling a bit difficult with the DCT, and something to get used to, is that it can't switch to 'N' to coast to a stop. There's always a bit of engine brake.

I removed the rear seat factory foam and cover. Then, I cut a fuel access hole in the rear seat pan. I added my own foam (looks ok, but I wouldn't want to sit there, hahaha) and made a DIY seat cover with a flap covering the access hole. The flap is held down with a bit of sewn on Velcro ©. I don't have to unload to refuel anymore.

Each to there own that's fine. I much prefer not to shift or I might aswell get a conventional bike, that's just the way I see it.
