I'm handy capped by not having a Hebrew keyboard, but the larger Ayin and Dalet letters, in Deuteronomy 6:4, the Shema, form a word, which is "ED." This word in Hebrew means "witness," and the message with this word is that we are to be a witness, or give evidence or testify, of the Oneness of God.

Thank you for this! You’ve just inspired me to make a third attempt to learn Hebrew. I’m hearing impaired as I came to learn when I was making my first attempt - I did well using the book and ordered the tape that went along with it - but when I got the tape, it was shocking, like I hadn’t learned anything (this was back in the days before PCs became common/affordable). The second try was on an iPad when programs for learning Hebrew became available and this was better, but the focus was on modern, not Biblical Hebrew, so when the iPad failed, I gave up. Now I will try your videos and hope that "third times the charm” so I can go deeper into the Hebrew scriptures beyond what I can get from BlueLetter with what I’ve retained from my previous two tries.

Question: why does the Beit has the Kamatz under but pronounced differently as "ba" and "bo"?
@ישראלבארטוАй бұрын
Hello teacher, please; Help me with a question in Bereshit 22:2 (Christian or Hebrew numerology, I really don't know). Why is the verb to love in the past, but they translate it into the present? that is, when it says: ... which you loved (אָהַבְתָּ) they translate it: which you love. Thank you so much!
@TheHebrewBibleАй бұрын
Strictly speaking, there is no "tense" in Biblical Hebrew, it's "aspect". The verb-action is either perfect (complete), or imperfect (incomplete). The word אָהַבְתָּ (ahavta) is in the perfect (qatal) conjugation. You could translate it in English as "you loved", but that might imply to some as though he doesn't love him now. The imperfect form of the word would be תֶּאֱהָב (te'ehav). I guess the qatal (perfect) form is used to indicated Abraham's love for Isaac was perfect (complete), though he will continue to express it in time.
