It’s so hard to test mids and highs in an objective fashion. The NVXs look awesome! I’d like to see a 6x9 option for the component set myself.
@OxBlitzkriegxO2 ай бұрын
Maybe. Showing actual Frequency response per speaker and phase shift for the crossover helps. Explaining how the parts of the crossover affect sound and then explaining how speaker placement and phase shift matter, would be a good start.

I’m working on getting some subs. There stuff seems solid. They aren’t really a company that designs anything but rather a company that has build houses put stuff together for them. Price and quality seem good.
@julesbruchez-theartofgrapp96462 ай бұрын
@@Hi-Fire-do yes I agree, but they tend to seem to set the trend before others do. Or before they have some type of special spec that is put into a product that makes it unique from others. I know they’re new versions of their subs and the last versions are really something special. A lot of people have tested them out and they talk about how surprisingly the SPL is there and maybe not as loud as others but yet the SQ at those high thresholds are much more pleasing to the ear , than other models from other companies. They don’t do well to the typical SPL woofer that box builders will add another 10 to 20% of box volume to get out more SPL. They do much better in their own speck build and give out very high numbers yet with attention to detail with SQ their new line of subwoofers are to keep up with a lot of the SPL competitors out there , but much more responsive than just muddy booming base.

I have 2 sets of these 3 ways in my truck, I wonder if they would sound better if I ran them active 🤔 Im not getting the bass response I feel these speakers are capable of. Hopefully, someone can shed some light on the subject.
@Hi-Fire-do2 ай бұрын
Running them active and tuned correctly is always a better way to go. Are you not running enough power to them? In my test I was running an amp that is 75 watts rms per channel. Bass response was very good and controlled for this type of speaker. Are you running them full range? meaning with no crossover on the bottom end. I ran them full range in my test, then again crossed at 80hz. thanks for watching

@@CLPATTERSON make sure they are infact off at the amp. 70hz is fine, not sure what you are expecting from 70hz roll off. I have played lots of these speakers and and the mid base capability of these seem to be pretty good. What you are looking for is a good blending into the subwoofer range from the high end, which I think these do.
@CLPATTERSON2 ай бұрын
@ks71z28 Well, I had a $50 set of Kicker coaxials from Walmart before these also set to 70hz and those had more midbass. Something ain't right. I'm gonna try hooking the 6.5's directly to the amp to bypass the crossovers and see. Btw, thanks for responding.
@julesbruchez-theartofgrapp964615 сағат бұрын
Mid bass response is LARGELY effected by the stability of the enclosure. Good speakers in a door of a car with zero bracing and treatment will be blah. Going fully active is only going improve minimally. You have to really know and understand what to do. My car is definitely set up for SQ and I’m running 2 sets of components and they are clean, loud and my mid bass is strong

They are likely built in the same factory, but the speaker leads, as well as the cone material are different. The tweeter is similar in the diaphram, but doesn't have just bare wires coming out It's likely that NVX "used" a existing design and tailored it to their product line by adding the carbon fiber cone and some other details. It also looks as if Recoil no longer sells them. Including hardware would have been a great addition. Thanks for watching

I considered this set actually. But the 3-in mid-range or 3 and 1/2 in whatever they call it with. That cast basket is just so huge that I just couldn't find a way to put it on my dash or a pillar or a pod that wouldn't look ridiculous and stand out and flashy because I live in an apartment. If I had an older car that I didn't mind cutting up the doors I would have probably done it. I went with Infinity kappa 3 way and was able to drop the 3 and 1/2 in straight into the dash. Almost flush without modification in a 2012 Highlander. A little bit of modification is upcoming to get them under the grill. And I think they are pretty okay. I'll be at the stock crossovers have them I think at 800 HZ bandpassed and I think that that should be lower. Maybe $300 or 400 HZ but I haven't got a DSP installed in there yet to play with it. Looking forward to the rest of this series!
@Hi-Fire-do2 ай бұрын
You are correct, that fancy cast basket kinda hurts installation options, same goes for the woofer. We will be including the 3 way Infinity Kappa as well. You might want to plug your ears for that video, they aren't my favorite.
@BARBELLS-AND-BUDS2 ай бұрын
I bought the Kappa 3-way and not really happy with them if I am honest,. Lower midrange is not there because they are crossed at 800 I think. The tweeters are crossed high as well since they are like .5" so not ideal either. The pictures made the tweeters look bigger because of the mounting flower looking thing. I havent tried the woofers since I left the factory 6x9s in there for now while I has testing them. I might drop a Dayton RS-180 or RS-225 woofer in the door and a SB Acoustics SB29RDNC-C000-4 in the dash. Since I bought the Kappas Ill try active with different x-over points to see if I can improve it along with equalization first. Otherwise Ill list the Kappas on eBay.
@ks71z282 ай бұрын
@@BARBELLS-AND-BUDS I found the Kappas to be too loud in the 3-5k range. I thing the crossover points are wrong, but the dome mid range is a bad speaker. I will save that for the review. I would replace them. The NVX was much smoother with a better sound stage.

@@timothy5977 I'm gonna say that there is a liklihood these drivers are similar or the same as what recoil may have offered, but it looks like NVX is the only one with them at this time. Other than the size of the baskets and the non existent hardware, these are a good value and performer for sure.
@chrishuyler35802 ай бұрын
The differences are not always in plain sight, lower grade components in the crossover, lower tolerances, cheaper grade copper wire in coils, and stuff off the assembly line that doesn’t pass Q.C. is often sorted and sold as lesser brand names. Not saying that is the case here, but you generally get what you pay for.
@OxBlitzkriegxO2 ай бұрын
Ugh. While the speakers *look* ok, you won't know until each one is properly measured and then measured with the crossover. The speakers probably measure "good enough", who knows about the tweeter. The crossovers are complete ass. I would expect a single iron core for the low signal crossover but there are so many iron cores there and the air core inductors are TINY. Of course they're using cheap electrolytic capacitors, but those could be replaced with good poly caps instead. Same design but much better construction. Those ceramic resistor MUST go. They are the absolute cheapest trash you could possibly go with. Replacing the chea trash parts in the crossover with good stuff wouldn't be too hard a hit in their budget for those speakers, especially if you cut back on a lot of that stupid packaging. It's so overkill and expensive while adding zero value.
@Hi-Fire-do2 ай бұрын
I agree. The packaging is stupid waste of resources and cost. I would like to see a bag of screws that properly fit the mid range speaker grills, or yes maybe better crossover components. I will say they do look better than most crossovers in the test.
@OxBlitzkriegxO2 ай бұрын
@@Hi-Fire-do the mark up on the speakers is unreal. the set previous to this utilized SB Acoustic drivers. im unsure of where these are from now. the mid and woofer looks like a random chinese driver, as ive seen that exact basket and cone design in many other brands. doesnt mean its bad, just means its not part of an actual spec'd design philosophy. the tweeter is claimed to be made in germany. i have no idea who that might be. also, for the tweeters, the crossover frequency is 2800hz. the midrange has a Fs of ~76hz, meaning they shouldnt really be crossed over lower than around 160hz or so. they have 1.5mm one-way xmax. i would imagine the mid is crossed over around 250hz, but its impossible to know without seeing the crossover network

@Hi-Fire-do2 ай бұрын
Also, this is where $800-1000 plus speakers come into play when adding high end passive crossovers. What I have learned also is the MOST 2 way components do nothing as for crossover on the woofer, it just "naturally" rolls off on the high end and hopefully matches the tweeter, which has a crossover. I haven't disected these crossovers yet.
