We make a quick midweek visit to the Gariep Game Reserve on the OFS side of Gariep Dam. Unfortunately not everything went as we had planned.

Even though these massive atrocities against the Boer women and children in the concentration camps, the Boers did not declare the British flag as hate speech. Neither did we destroy British statues or infrastructure. We learned from it and improved upon it.

We try and keep a positive outlook on life. With regards to the nature reserves (Gariep included), I can so far only give positive feedback. The facilities at Gariep were in the process of being refurbished and looked very neat.

Is there pensioners rate for Gariep Dan
@WaywardWilderness
@WaywardWilderness 4 ай бұрын
We didn't enquire about pensioners rates unfortunately. I got most of my information from the following Web site. The quoted prices are still relatively up to date. gariepdam.co.za/gariepdam/NatureReserve/

That is not paddling canoes, they are tipping canoes. Can you Eskimo roll them?
@WaywardWilderness
@WaywardWilderness 4 ай бұрын
No, these are racing kayaks that we use on rivers etc. That particular kayak that Lynda is paddling was my river canoe that I did the Berg River Marathon in a few years ago. These kayaks can't be Eskimo rolled.

@nonibbs Hi Penny, both Lynda and I have paddled white water kayaks - with varying degrees of success!! Fortunately we both enjoy river racing etc. Not that we are that fast anymore, these days we do it for the enjoyment. Thanks for your positive feedback, we really appreciate it. Keep well and best regards, Wayne and Lynda.

Why were these town closed? Of course the questions still remains, is this ‘waterway’ still functional or has too succumb to the destructive force of the current political regime

The tunnel and other related infrastructure is still functioning and appears to be well maintained. As to why the towns were closed I can only speculate that they had served their purpose. Midshaft was handed back to the land owner and Teebus is still semi functional for maintenance purposes, but the housing structures are no longer in use.

Very nice video, thank you. It's a pity, though, that I couldn't hear a thing due to my hearing impediment. What did this area produce? And why did the people living here move out. I must say it is still a beautiful place.

Hi there. Glad you enjoyed the videos. If you are referring to the towns along the tunnel that are now deserted? They were specially built for the people working on the tunnel construction. Once the tunnel was complete 2 of the 3 towns were closed down. Only Oviston on the banks of the Gariep Dam still exists today. Hope that helps. Keep well and best regards, Wayne and Lynda.
