Wow! Is that airstream within the 3500 limit? We’ve got a Y and currently thinking about getting a similar size camper to yours. How does it cope going up mountains? Thanks for uploading!

Yes we stripped a little weight off it. We’ve only used it in Manitoba on flat land. Haven’t travelled in mountains. This summer we upgraded our camper to a 30 foot airstream as we needed more space for our young adult children who like to join us. And we are towing it with a gas powered truck until we get the cyber truck . Can I ask how you found my video? I think I must’ve posted it on social media somewhere at some point?

Good video! There’s an argument to be made that you should have drafted behind that camper that passed you. You could have gone a little faster behind them without much more consumption because they would be cutting the wind for you. Especially worth the risk IMO since you had a little buffer in range to reach the charger.

Thanks, We have tried that, it hasn’t seemed to work as well with pulling the camper. But we have used that in the past with just our vehicle.

When I was pulling my camper across the US, anytime I was dragging behind a semi it made a dramatic difference. That being said, one time I tried to drag behind another camper and it didn’t help nearly as much in that particular instance, so maybe other campers are not as helpful.

How do you charge when the Supercharger station doesn’t have a pull-forward unit, I.e. all are back-in?

We are in Manitoba where the chargers aren’t as busy. We’re usually able to sneak in at the end of the row, sometimes end up blocking a charger

We are about to purchase a lightweight Avan in Australia at around 1800 kg ATM. Pulling it with an X75....any tips or traps would be welcome.

I don’t believe you have cold winter weather to deal with, but the wind and your speed both are big factors that affect range.

So cool to find out that there is a way to pair a MY with a Bambi! What modifications did you make to the camper to reduce the hitch weight to comply with the Tesla's rating?

We travel super light. We have removed the spare tire as they are new Goodyear Endurance 80psi tires. Our tow vehicle doesn’t have a spare so it doesn’t really change much to not have a trailer spare. We have Good Sam complete tow protection in case. We only carry one propane tank on the hitch so have reduced hitch weight to recommended. We also use an equalizer hitch which makes it so the trailer almost seems like it’s bot even there. We keep weight that is loaded into the trailer over the axle.

Hello! We have a Tesla Model Y Long Range and we just bought a Retro 179 camping trailer. How heavy was/is your airstream, and what's the togue weight of your Airstream?

Hi, 3600 lbs empty , 350 lb tongue weight. It’s the aerodynamics that are most important though.

We took off a little bit over 100 lbs by removing one propane bottle and the spare tire

how does this trailer affect range?

In average summer weather we can drive without the camper for about 4.5 hours on a charge. When we tow the camper we can go about 2.5 hours on a charge. Depending on the lay of the land.
