The "Art Deco" (Stamped lines and B&S logo) Briggs blower cover is an artifact of the 1950s Briggs engines, as far as I can tell, and didn't make it into the 1960s.

Hey Taryl, what a catch. When you lifted that mower up and I saw the frame made out of round and square tube welded together, it reminded me of my time as a welder in a shop summer of 1970. There were 199 thousnady million job shops in the Detroit suburbs where you could get a job in a second. Staying at one was something altogether different though. I worked in a 120°F production welding shop where we had 450 amp mig welders w/ water cooled handles and a setup guy for each welder. Imagine 4'X4'X4' palleted boxes full of parts to be welded together. That provided my dinner. Couldn't wait for the Roach Coach to show up at 10am for a snack break. Then lunch at Noon, and 15min break at 2:30 then home goin time at 5pm in a 500hp car to drive in bumper to bumper traffic for 45mins. Yep, we welded little frames like that one, crossmember parts for Ford, luggage racks for Yamaha etc. And if you didn't like the job, you could find another in 10mins. Those were indeed the days. After that our politicians sold us out and everything went to C-H-I-N-A. And a Lot of it is JUNK. OK, fine video Mr. Dactyl. Thank you very much for the entertainment. ben/ michigan

Bolens was still making the articulated riders in the '80's when I was working at a dealer-they started coming in with steering cable failures. They came out with a retrofit kit that I had to install-no charge to the owners. Thanks for taking us along on your journeys, guys!

totally LOVE THIS!! my neighbor had one of these when i was a little kid.. i wanted one so bad... he wore his golf shirts and khaki shorts to mow in... backed his corvette out to get the mower out.. I was too small to get to ride it but loved the "twisty mower" I always called it.. my grandmother had a Lawn boy push mower.. (it was like a wierd tan color not the lawn bot green they later were).. she got rid of that in favor of a snapper rider which i did get to ride.. but it wasnt a twisty
@chairrider24625 ай бұрын
OMG. When I was a kid in the 70's, my step Dad had one of these tiny riders. It was old and worn even back then. My oldest step brother would get it running and beat it up and ruin it and then start over again. Poor machine suffered. I always found the old machine fascinating. Ingenious post WWII engineering to keep it simple and get a job done! Would love to have this guy for a neighbor! He seems very interesting! Thanks for this upload!

I remember these coming into the shop every spring for tune up and sharpening. The original “almost” zero turn mower. People with estates and a lot of landscaping really loved them, but they didn’t hold up very well over time. I like the way the green lever lifted the front deck for servicing. Cool stuff.

Awesome mowers, just love the old stuff they were built to last not like the crap they sell today. Going to be a fair amount of work to get them restored but what a treat to pull them out from time to time and give them a run like they were designed to do in the mid 60's. How's the new shop coming along Taryl, update coming soon? Keep up the video's, cheers.
@Hjerte_Verke Жыл бұрын
I really like seeing older stuff too. The way they are often "overbuilt" in certain areas and the 50s-60s-70s styling is neat. Nowadays they have really mastered the art of mass production and wherever they can, they cut corners and make the parts out of very thin sheet steel or plastic and the (big box store mowers) designs are all about identical with just different styling, decals and paint.

I like how the gas line is not a rubber hose that would deteriorate over time. When I was a kid, my Dad brought home a "burns" mower that is that size but not a split frame. The mower motor on the burns had so much torque that you could pop a wheelie easily when popping the clutch quickly! Good times..

You buy replacement shoes you reglue back onto those brake pad peddle that rides inside of those rims on those riding lawnmowers you just got. Those are brake pads that half to be done that way to. Instead of regular types of brake pad shoes. That's another item online part you can order still to. I'd order two sets of those if you decide to. It'll save money for shipping and handling fees in the long run to that way taryl. Acetone removes that adhesive glue good to. Then sand those brake pad peddles so the glue sticks and adheres to the surface better to. Good luck on fixing and restoring that pivoting frame and body bolens riding lawnmower to.

I'm female and so is my neighbor and both her and I where we are single have mowed our yards and ran the weed eaters and even did some running of the chainsaws. So those mower ads were right up our alley. Back then the women stayed home and took care of everything around the house while the husband worked, of course the husband paid for it and the woman could buy whatever she wanted but it was back when you could raise a family on a 1 person salary a year. Now I work, do all the yard work and all I get is a beer or mixed drink from time to time.
