Hi Mike! Just a thought; As future diagnostic tool, you might consider taking an old multimeter probe wire, and crimping a single pin socket on one end (with a bit of shrink tubing) to make a test lead. This way. you reduce the risk of an alligator clip touching more than one pin...
@pinballshenanigans2 ай бұрын
I like where you are going with this! What do you mean by single pin socket?
@daveweston51582 ай бұрын
@@pinballshenanigans Apologies, my vocabulary, and/or terminology is not quite where it needs to be... When repining a connector, you usually are connecting a new female (socket) end onto a wire, which then is encased in a connector plug. What I'm proposing is a single wire (made from an old multimeter probe) with a single female connector pin, and some shrink tubing to insulate it on the other side. What is the proper name for this pin connector? This will give you a test probe wire that will plug onto a single (male) pin of a board, and a probe lead on the other end (with a pencil like grip) to allow you to more easily run tests like the one you were preforming in this video.

@@daveweston5158 Cool thanks! Ya I think what I call a pin or terminal is what you called a socket. There is not really a "female" terminal for these .100 male connectors but I could stick a terminal into a female housing (cut it down to maybe a single or double length housing) and use that! Maybe this episode I will try that! Thanks!
@daveweston51582 ай бұрын
@@pinballshenanigans Ah! I could have sworn there existed a 'female pin' type of connecter one could attach to a wire... Yet another reason I don't do this sort of work any more... ;-) A double length housing should help keep the wire stable when plugged onto the board.... Another question, while I have your attention; Have you ever considered the use of a magnetic mat when working on smaller assemblies? I don't know about you, but I hate it when small screws (or other metal parts) fall off the bench, and bounce on the floor at an angle that causes a dimensional portal to open, insuring that the part is never seen again...

@@daveweston5158 Maybe you were thinking of this style female terminal... www.digikey.ca/en/products/detail/molex/WM1271-ND/133339?General&PMax%20Shopping_Product_Zombie%20SKUs&productid=133339&General&CjwKCAjwxNW2BhAkEiwA24Cm9AWqtoGN6K6mb-g3P3cSbLG6tK7amqR1zCUTo2cP_J0ekYbP3U4a9xoCs74QAvD_BwE&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwxNW2BhAkEiwA24Cm9AWqtoGN6K6mb-g3P3cSbLG6tK7amqR1zCUTo2cP_J0ekYbP3U4a9xoCs74QAvD_BwE Im not sure I knew such a thing existed! I have a magnetic dish but never use it, not sure why? Maybe I love fishing out hardware with my magnet that invariably ends up under my washing machine!!!
