Good video mate, some form of media blasting may have got rid of the rust (and the paint) leaving you to weld in the new piece, fill, prime and paint

ShedTV... the front panel is the focal point so needs to be right. I wouldn’t have painted it till i had welded the new piece in as you will need to strip the paint foe welding and some of the remaining paint will burn off. Long term look at POR15 an expensive but good rust treatment that you can etch prime and top coat.

Yes, I agree. My shed, although not wet, has damp air and anything bare gets rust on it in days. By the time I had decided to slap that etch spray on I had decided it was temporary. I have cleaned the paint off the edge where I have been welding tonight, apart from a bit I missed on the back which did indeed catch fire!

Umm. Not well. One or two other things have got in the way including the likelihood of having to move out of the shed in the near future. The Landrover is on hold for the moment, but I will return to it!

Mikemike690 Thank you. I’ve got a bit of s problem as the chap who owns the barn is selling up. Priority at the moment is to get rid of what I don’t need and see what my options are.

Little trick for rust: soak in molasses/water solution (1/10) for a couple of weeks. No rust. No effort. Cheap.

Roy Brooks What is molasses? Do you mean treacle type stuff? Not sure it’s a term used in the UK. I could be wrong.

Or in the UK same principale you can buy cheap white vinegar to remove the rust by soaking the part in it.

Enjoying the rebuild. I am currently rebuilding a series 3, have a look over at my channel if you are interested. I was trying to get mine done by April, but it's looking unlikely!
