(Part 2) Animation Students Review K-Hiphop MVs: Sleeping Beauty, Resist & NA B YA

Welcome back to our guest series! This episode features two animation students, Haley Chung (@haley.ch) and Gabe Dimagiba (@lightgaber) reviewing a few animated K-Hiphop MVs.
Apologies for the audio! We shot these back in 2018 when I didn't own a mic, and there was a LOT of room noise captured in the video, so my editor Pim did her best to take it out and clean it up :)

I liked how in the last mv the lyrics are "nabi-ah" and nabi means butterfly but it's also a common way of calling cats in korea

N.Flying recently uploaded an animated music video for their digital release Starlight, and I'd love to see you guys react to it! The song is really good, and is written and produced by their leader Lee Seunghyub, who wrote the song for his grandparents. (After seeing his grandmother's profile picture of his late grandfather who had dementia, with the caption, "forever friend") Thank you! :)

Sleeping beauty and Epik High in general is superior lyrically and I wish more people appreciate that. I really hope one day you make your friends react to some of their English tracks, just to admire the beauty in the words.

End of The World a.k.a Sekai No Owari is Japanese band (if you don't know them). They have great songs, and their pianist is a goddess (check "Sekai No Owari - S.O.S", I love her play there and the lyrics are so deep). Fun fact the vocalist, pianist, and guitarist are childhood friends. When Sleeping Beauty was out, I was screaming because they did it with Epik High. 😭

I really hope if you do do this kind of video/project again that you'll include IU's Eight. Coming from someone who doesn't know animation, the style is really pretty and complements the lyrics and meaning of the song

Yes, Sugimoto is the animator for sleeping beauty. His work is featured in NHK world japan's series anime supernova

So cool to see Resist and Sleeping Beauty get some recognition! I've loved both songs since their release. Both MVs are relatively simple, yet each have their own complexities/details in their styles and visual storytelling. I've really enjoyed this animation series!

Na B Ya (nabi-ya) ('nabi' meaning butterfly) is a common name for cats in Korea, therefore the music video was based around the journey after a cat. I'm sure there's more explanation in the actual lyrics as well but hopefully that gives a bit more context to it.
