I dam well agree. If this was a black man whos music had been sampled the hell out of across decades there would be up roar! Give this guy his props. Salute this guy. Imagine if he had never gotten in the studio. We would never of had those hits we are all so familiar with. It's slightly sickening that most of these producers built nothing from the ground up. Does this guy get royalties then.

I remember hearing Bob James' joints out in the parks back in the 70s. Moms had an album or two of Bob's, Touchdown I remember because of the football on the cover and the song "Angela" being the theme from the tv show Taxi, one of my favorite tv shows back in the day. Then Hip Hop music starts it's monumental run on the radio and DJs would cut up Nautilus and Take Me To The Mardi Gras live on-air for years. Then comes sampling. And finally, I have my own collection of old school classic records to spin and sample for my turntable setup and MPC hardware and software. Hopefully, my son will inherit these items and appreciate these works of Hip Hop cultural art. Full circle and beyond.

This took me back my brother. I’ll be 48 this year and I’m thankful I was born right along with Hip Hop. I’m also a jazz fiend + and a Jazz drummer, I have my Dad to thank for that. My mother was a singer as well, so music has always been a part of my life. They’re the ones that introduced me to the likes of Bob James, George Duke, Stanley Clarke, Jimi Hendrix, The Isley Brothers, Donnie Hathaway, Stevie Wonder, Grover Washington Jr., etc. I miss the days of my parents throwing lite parties, BBQ’s, & neighborhood block parties with all of that good music!

@@kvngphresh448 That's the beauty of our life and being cultured, being able to look back through it and pinpointing something that had an impact on you. God bless and rest in peace to our beloved elders. My pops had this dope big ass radio back around 79/80. He would scoop me up from The Bronx and take me to his hangouts in Harlem. We'd walk damn near everywhere! So, my pops would blast his jazz music( radio station WRVR) on this radio right at the time everyone else was blasting Hip Hop music. @@Mr.Taylor56 WOW! I can imagine the embarrassment then, but also the nostalgia of being in those moments. Being grateful to have experienced those different genres then and being able to witness the influence jazz had growing up in hip hop. We also can’t forget our elder, Sir James Brown! Here’s to those that have paved the way for us to evolve through music and our way of life!
@Mr.Taylor56

@@kvngphresh448 Indeed. I got James Brown and a lotta other elders on my daily playlist but no classic jazz outside of standard breaks. I'm just not there yet. I was tripping the last time I visited my older brother. He got me by 8yrs, and he been out there and been through it, believe me. He used to have all of these flyers and tapes back in the day. Seeing this ill dude from the projects who used to laugh at our moms blasting jazz through the house on Saturdays and Sundays to now listening to the very music he once mocked. It's crazy how things come full circle. I can still hear my mother yelling at us "Turn down that damn bang bang music" when we turned our joints up to drown hers out!😂😂😂

Has anyone sampled Westchester Lady? That will always be, hands down, my favorite Bob James song. Went to college in northern Maine back in the early 90s, a culture shock for a kid like me from Brooklyn, NY. Once my buddy and I, spur of the moment, jumped into his Acura Integra to head down to NYC on a Friday afternoon to escape the campus for the weekend, going 95mph the whole way. As the city lights of New York appeared on the horizon and we left Connecticut, Westchester Lady came on the radio! Man, that was magic!!! Magic memories of youth!

This man is a treasure! He’s genuinely just happy to see other artists use bits and pieces of his work. Used to bang that 9th wonder tune for years.

There is something so heartening about seeing people from his generation react favorably to sampling. He recognizes the efficacy of it as an art form, the expressivity & craft of it.

Grew up listening to this great man’s music. I think he’s being very gracious here. I guess a lot of these artists grew up somehow listening to him as well. I struggle to imagine them not secretly loving it too. Hence them developing an insatiable need to season their music with a sprinkling of his.
