Wow Barbara was so generous in her pricing. I do think she should have got a little more from you. You are good enough friends to help each other. Jeffrey I do like you. You remind me of a friend I used to go shopping with like Barb does with you. Just saying....

Jeff you low balled her & dug deep for flaws & negatives, you know you got a great deal. I think you guys should have split the profits after/if you sold, I'm sure she would have helped with packaging etc... Unliked for this reason 😕 Will def cont. to watch.

your comments are right on the mark... Jeff you bicker for fifty cents.!!!... wow your stinginess is pitiful considering Barb being such a good friend and your knit picking over a minor scratch etc seen on a item that is less than a dollar or two....... grow up and stop being such a selfish kvetchy boy who does not really appreciate Barb's kindness nor her basically definite under-pricing her items . You are so afraid to give her a reasonable price when she basicallly is giving away her items .with no concern for profit .and your serious complainng that you can only make your 10 to 15 dollars profit on a purchase of the figurine marked for less that two dollars .... your nature to grab things from Barb without thinking that if the tables were turned would you be as kind to her for itemizing a price as low as she did and your fretting over fifty cents ........ surely you can make that up when a client offers you her price.... we have seen how you buy things for 25 cents and then whine over having to pay out so little yet expect the sale to have a huge profit margin....... you scalped your best friend !!!!

The lamp has corrosion because it was probably put in a damp basement long ago when the Style trend changed. I have resprayed Metal like that with the great spray paint on the market. Yes it’s not original anymore, but much more appealing. As for the shade I think it’s OK with the marks. I think that happens when you use a bulb that’s too big. I love the attention to detail they put into the plug.

The Fire King bowl is the Splash Proof in the Rainbow pattern. It’s like the Pyrex Primary where the different sized bowls were different colors. At the time they came out you could buy them individually or as sets. That’s why it’s more common to see them as random bowls here and there. And the Swirl line was more popular in this pattern, the pastel colors are very desirable.

I agree with James Le Page, seems like he was taking advantage of Barb. He would never had sold items, even to a friend, for that low of a price. He would tell them his time shopping for the items is worth considering. I also hate the way he's so negative about thrift store pricing jeffrey, those stores are there to help the community, not to provide you with items that you Jack up the price on! It bugs me so much when resellers do that!

To be fair, Barb knows the business and what profit margin is needed to make reselling worthwhile. Also she's selling to a friend and I'm sure she and Jeffrey have other things going on between them we never see or hear about. I mean I recently gave a friend a pile of stuff and refused their money even though they were arguing it was items I could sell. Well. yes but that's the same friend who would and has, dropped everything to help me out when I needed it. Basically, we can't get judgy about deals between friends.

Yeah, I just can't with him any more. He's a bit too curt with her at times as well. He whined over some of the things she had that he'd be jumping on otherwise. They both have a great eye, but passive aggressives irritate me.

The jadeite FireKing Splashproof bowl lists on Etsy for anywhere from $45 to $55. The current PC term is “Asian”. I’ve seen midcentury 2-tier fiberglass shades can sell between $50 and $99 without the marks on it. Fiberglass scorched easily, so the marks may be scorch marks. Maybe a Magic Eraser would help with the marks. I’d cut the lock off, go over the metal with a brass plating pen, and keep it.

Del, you might not have been able to see clearly in the video but Barb's bowl is not Jadeite glass and it has a "fired on" color. Fired on bowls have much less value. The actual final selling price of "fired on" vs. solid Jadeite glass are quite different. For example, a green "fired on" splash proof Fire King bowl (same a Barb's) sold September the first for a total of $14.50 which is about what it was worth 10 to 15 years ago. I'm guessing the ones you saw on Etsy were not fired on but rather Jadeite glass.

Oh no problem! I'm not trying to pose as a "know it all" trust me. Just wanted to make sure Barb and Jeffery are able to list it correctly with realistic value in mind. I didn't check Etsy but my guess is the listings for the higher pieced bowls are most likely Jadeite.

Hiya Jeffrey & Barb, re: the flatware set. You’ve said a few times “all those butter knives”. They’re not butter knives: a different shape & shorter than the rest of the flatware. They’re regular knives that go w/ the flatware (all meals). If you look closely, they’ll have a serrated bit for cutting unlike butter knives which are blunt. We’re so used to using specific steak knives w/ meals that I think it’s been forgotten that the norm is knives like these that go & would be set out for a meal setting, steak knives added if cutting things harder to cut (such as meats). Hope that helps! Jeffrey it’s kind you’re not ripping Barb off & actually paid more for some items as you know you’ll make plenty selling! Barb you’re so sweet & had lovely items; love the “sundial” piece (gorgeous colour & shape) Jeffrey passed on but like you got too much stuff! I’m sure it’ll sell well online, but I know it’s hard for you to list w/ little ones so good luck! I’m procrastinating... doing a weird flea mkt in a bar in NYCs East Village on Sunday & need to find all my $30 & under stuff (taking pics of higher priced stuff) that won’t attract drunk thieves! I forgot how hard my old flea mkt stall was! Yipes, can’t afford to lose $$ since I’m spending to do this; wish me luck! Have a lovely day & happy sales to you both! Jet 🧡🎸🎶⚡️🦇🦇🦇

Sorry "Caught in Love" but that exact coffee can did indeed come with a lid and it is no fake. It is a rare can and one recently sold (yes actually SOLD) on Ebay for close to $100 in good condition with the actual lid. A very small reproduction can was made but it has a paper label. Many of the coffee cans of the 1920's and 30's were actually manufactured with matching tin lids. You are correct that SOME coffee cans (mostly in the 1950's and newer) came with tin lids that were taken off with a tiny hand wound key. :)

Jeffrey, when I first heard that Oriental was offensive many years ago I was so confused. I'm Filipina and nobody in my family would ever be offended at being called Oriental. That being said, the new rule is that it is offensive to call people Oriental, but when describing rugs or lamps, it's fine.

For the more rounded Fire King bowls - they are the "beaded edge" mixing bowls - also fired on colors. The book shows 4 sizes and 4 colors, but indicates that each size came in all 4 colors. Maybe you would have put together the set you wanted? The sizes listed are 4 7/8", 6", 7 1/8", 8 3/8". The colors are red, yellow, blue, green.

My Fire King book identifies the bowl as a splash-proof mixing bowl in a "fired-on" color - the book showed it also came in red and yellow in the same size. It should be a 2 qt. bowl and it is just shown as a single in the book and doesn't indicate that there were other sizes or that it was part of a set. At the time the book came out (2000), it was not worth a lot, compared to other Fire King bowls.

I did a search on Worthpoint for you for the green bowl. It's called Jadeite (color) splash bowl. Probably 1940s/1950s. One sold in May on eBay by itself for $50. I saw ranges of $25-$125 going back to 2013. I think your current range would be $40-65 right now on eBay :)
@Motosmamma
@Motosmamma 4 жыл бұрын
Note: most of the ones on Worthpoint had the jadeite color on the inside too. It looks like Barb's bowl has white on the inside. So it's either faded some from use or it's a little later piece and it would be on the lower end of the price range. Just my thoughts.

Jenn you are absolutely correct in your second statement. Barb's example has a "fired on " color and not true Jadeite glass. The fired on bowls have much less value. Folks must be very careful when they do "sold" searches on Ebay because the selling price of "fired on" vs. solid Jadeite glass are quite different. For example, a green "fired on" splash proof Fire King bowl (same a Barb's) sold September the first for a total of $14.50 which is about what it was worth 10 to 15 years ago. Nice bowl and I like the fired on colors just as much as the solid colored glass.

I had the Santa with bag my mother in law made. It’s from the 80’s . I used it for Christmas cards. The details on the plug are interesting because those of us who antique shop need to know these facts. Keep it coming.

Fire King splash proof primary nesting bowl set.. heres a link to the smaller yellow.. www.ebay.com/itm/143418671136 also fire king nesting bowl set beaded rim.. on the round ones... on Jean and Jack.. in the early 70's these places sprung up called plaster shacks.. they poured molds that were former ceramic molds, with plaster of paris.. you would go in buy the piece and take it home and paint it, they sold paints, and sprays that gave it the glazed ceramic look..my Ceramic career, actually got started painting these plaster of paris pieces in Jr. High..lol.. it seems that is what they are.. I know older pieces are chalkware,, but there are a lot of plaster of paris pieces out there from those places in the 70s..

Yvon / Thrifty Rich after inspecting it more closely, I noticed that it has three small chips on one edge, and some missing paint on the fruit. Because of this, I wasn’t planning on listing it.

Barbie Szpila ... OK thank you, I still love it but I guess it wouldn’t be a good deal because it would be at least eight dollars to ship it to me. 💜☮️

Maybe the term "Chinoiserie" would describe that lampshade.

I'm not sure the lamp @ 3:45 goes on the wall; have a gold one and it has full motion for a spot or ground lighting. It is made to focus the light upwards i.e. focus upwards through a palm plant to make spectacular shadows of foliage on walls and ceilings; very chic in the 1950's. Great deal it's worth way more than 2 dollars.😉

Fireking came 1st then pyryx took over. But fire King did do a 1 year about 16 years ago where they made Jade it color in a few larger bowls and a bowl with a spout on the side of it. That fire King is a thicker bowl

Did the pencil sharpener work? Artists usually want the sharpeners that have different sizes but some might still want it!(to use!)
