Car ownership is subjective. Just because you had problems does not mean everyone will and that BMWs are junk. I have had such a pleasant experience with BMWs(E30,E28,E90) and will own one for the rest of my life. My 1986 325ES does not leak or burn a drop of oil. It has almost 250k miles. Most reliable car I've ever had. Of course, not mentioning how well balanced and fun it is to drive. My father also had a Alpine white 528e when I was a teen. Again, reliable and so much fun to drive.

Yes, Marc - if one does not "get" or "understand" the actual differences between a commodity car and one like a BMW, it can be easy to get frustrated with the extra care needed for the long run of ownership.

Stephen Raznick It is a known fact that BMWs require extra preventative maintenance. If you don't have the resources or the expertise to do your own work then you shouldn't own one. Having owned Toyota, Honda & Mazdas I absolutely agree with you on the durability of those brands. But there is a reason I own 2 BMWs. They are the ultimate driving machine & the rest don't compare! BMWs are temperamental like a hot woman at times but if you give them love & attention they'll return it ten fold!!

My boots been ripped for along time now I'm experiencing a bad hard steering issues where it won't come back and barely wants to turn its dry on the rack b4 tie rods lack of grease I'm assuming , my question is why won't the grease stay on the rack bar after I turn the wheels the grease comes off ? Wrong grease type? Its a 325i wagon

I'm changing the tie rods on my E36 323ti and I was wondering if I need to put any extra grease on the ball joint or anywhere else? I have seen people do this on other vehicles.

Correct me if I'm wrong -- You could probably use regular clamps if you don't want to buy a crimp tool. (make sure the width matches though)

Is it ever suggested to use "LockTite" on any part of the assembly -- namely the inner end piece that goes into the rack? Thanks for your help. Really appreciate the video! Thanks!! :)

You can .... however, the lock plate is serving the "anti-loosen" function.

BavarianAuto I have e34 bmw 530i 1994 with very low mileage, 41000 miles, ( the car sat in the garage for very long time with previous owner), when I started driving the car I noticed pretty bad vibration around 70 m/h , I had it looked at the bmw shop, they ended up rebuilding my drive shaft. Most of vibration is gone, but some remaind, at around 65 m/h, mechanic looked at it again and said the front wheel was bent, so I replaced the wheels, but vibration remaind, I am suspecting that it's a wable, maby the tie rod (because I hear a clicking noise every time I make a tight turn when parking), don't feel like taking it to a mechanic (running out of money), I would appreciate any advice, thank you for your videos!
@bavarianautosport9 жыл бұрын
A worn tie-rod end would not typically cause a vibration. However, if there is play, it should be replaced. Have you replaced the upper control arm (thrust arm) bushings?
@dmitriyt27019 жыл бұрын
I believe I had lower control arms bushings replaced (on this car I had it done at the shop, so I think it's lower ones they did), what you are saying makes sense, since the other ones wore out, the upper arms must be bad too (the car is in Las Vegas, rubber part's out here dry out quicker). Can it all so be the center link (I think that's how it's called)
@bavarianautosport9 жыл бұрын
Similar to the tie rods, the center link (track rod, etc.) would not typically cause a vibration.

I have a 1995 BMW 325i . How much will a mechanic charge me to replace the rack and pinion since my steering wheel spins all the way around and sometimes gets locked like if it's not the whole rack and pinion itself , im assuming it is the whole part .

so there is no need to torque the inner tie rod end to the rack?
@bavarianautosport11 жыл бұрын
These do have torque values, but without a special fitting for the torque wrench, it can't be regularly torqued. We do indeed typically just tighten the inner ends to what would be about 50 ftlbs.

Had a 528, it developed a head issue. Got a new 530 sport version and it blew a head gasket. BMW expects people to replace the entire cooling system around every 60K as a regular part of "preventative maintenance." That is a travesty. My 1988 Honda Civic still does not leak oil. I had to repair an oil leak on the 528, and then the 530 also started leaking oil. BMW is supposedly a premium car. Given the fact that almost everything is made out of cheap plastic I disagree. BMW makes junk.

@mv309811 жыл бұрын
An apologist for the marque. Factually BMW's is known for making junk to the point where people will not consider owning one. They lease and then dump off the vehicle for someone else to purchase. Any car company that believes replacing the entire cooling system is regular maintenance is lying. My 1962 Impala SS in the family since new is faster in a straight line than a new M-car, and has far more panache. You can keep on deluding yourself.
