That setup is sweet! I love the size and the idea of casters on the side. I gotta build me one of these!!! Nice job!

Thanks... I recommend you use hardwood for the legs. I used mdf and pine sandwiched together and its fine for the weight of the cutter but hardwood would have been better. Good luck.

Nice upgrade. I also made some upgrade on mine, but I prefer your modifications, especially the support for y axe chain drag. Are you welling to share the stl files?
@cncbuiltbyme10 ай бұрын
Thanks for the comment. You can download the STL files from github.com/CNCBuiltbyme/JD-Garage-Plasma-Mods (link also added to description above). There are a couple things you should keep in mind. 1.) I ended up extending the X-axis about 40-50mm to accommodate the extra Y-axis tube which the bearing runs across and 2.) 3D printing the "JDG Plasma Mod - X Axis End Mount Part 2 - Qty 1.stl" file can be tricky. You will need supports. Too much may be difficult to get out, too little may be problematic. I ending up "painting" supports in strategic places. Good Luck!

I am collecting parts for a JD machine. Yours looks like one of the more elegant version with the same kind of revisions I am thinking about. I am not so crazy about the plastic box for the electronics. Plasma torches produce a lot of high freq. interference.

Thanks for the comment. I will keep that in mind if I start having any issues the the electronic.

Thank you very much for granting access to the files. I am doing modifications to the JD's garage DIY build plans currently and I like the look of your drag chains to nicely protect the wiring. Are you able to share the dimensions and length of the drag chain used for each axis?

I purchased my drag chains from Ali Express years ago. Info provide below: 1.) The correct size for the Y-Axis drag chain is important because the STL file was designed around this size drag chain. Inner dimension is 15x50mm, outside dimension is around 20x54mm. Product Name: Startnow Plastic Drag Chains Wire Carrier With End Connectors Bridge Transmission Cable Chain CNC Router Laser Machine Towline Select “TypeA, Bridge” Select “15x50 mm” size Currently $14.08 per meter (2 meter should be enough but double check) URL: www.aliexpress.com/item/2251832652548072.html 2.) The X-Axis drag chain is not so critical... I guess any size would be OK since there are no STL file that require this particular one. 10x40mm or 10x30mm inside dimension should be OK. Product Name: 1 Meter Length Black Plastic Drag Chain Cable Wire Carrier Not Open for 3D Printer and CNC Machines Select “10X40mm” (if they have it, 10x30mm also OK) Currently $2.52 per meter (2 meter should be enough but double check) URL: www.aliexpress.com/item/2251832788993681.html

What cutter are you working with? I have the lotos 5500cnc but I bought a new Hypertherm 45xp with a CNC port for my new table i'll build next Summers.

I ended up buying the Hynade (CUT60DN) from Amazon. They had a really good discount at the time so I went with it. Time will tell how good it really is. If I had to purchase another cutter, I would probably look for one with 50:1 ratio (to make it easier to add a THC later)... In any case, will cross that bridge when it comes :)

I had trouble with the first Y axis motor I tried, couldnt get it to turn. So I bought another one which can run off of 24v but it said its better to run it off of 36-48v... So now my X and Z are hooked up to 24v and the Y to 48v.

What is the other electronic mounted next to the relay module? It looks like the 3d printed part holds the arduino, relay, then not sure what the next small PCB is
@cncbuiltbyme10 ай бұрын
Yes, there is a 3D printed holder for the Uno or Mega, the relay and the bluetooth wireless module.

I would like to build a plasma cutter but don't know about JD's Garage. I spent around $150 bucks for plans and CNC cut metal to build a three-wheel trike. I got the plans along with the CNC metal. CNC metal cuts are very nice, and parts certainly have beautiful smooth cuts. My problem is that JD's garage gives zero measurements in their plans. I really don't understand how they can sell a DIY project with no measurements.
@cncbuiltbyme6 ай бұрын
I wasn't aware that they sell plans for a three wheel trike... so I can't really comment. The plasma plans do have measurement included for the parts needed. But you got me curious about the trike, going to go check it out.

An awful lot of work when you could of attached the wheel to a straight bar under the beam. A screw adjument would take care of the height with a locking nut. But what you did did the job.
