@GroundedConceptsLLC yes for sure! I think I want to build another down the road using extruded aluminum. This will suit me for a while though!

Your comment about buying the Langmuir I kinda disagree with. Im glad I built mine from JD because i know how its built and if it breaks down I know what to do. I also like the idea I built it as money dictated, meaning one week I had extra to spend, next week I didnt. With Langmuir I had to come up with the money all at once. as far as support JD has a facebook page now with tons of support, and I was able to email them as well while building mine. Anyway nice video.

@jeffjohnson5394 I totally understand that point of view and that's why I ended up building mine. The table is decent but I think I have to spend some time tinkering with it. I'd much rather be fabricating than tinkering. I would like to think the Langmuir is ready to rock out of the box. If I was to do it over, I'd either buy a Langmuir or build JDs table again but use extruded aluminum

I used a 30"x32" water pan from Vevor ($85) . I had to make the table a bit bigger to accommodate it. Planned that ahead of time. It also has a drain for the water which helps a ton when emptying.

Sounds like the exact pan I ordered. I made my table and then ordered the pan. Should have done it the other way around, smart!

Such a clean build! Really liked that you used connectors on the motors. Have you had any problems with setting up the z axis? Any tips on that since I am tackling the z axis at the moment, and cant seem to be able how to make it touch off prop. Best regards!
@barnbuiltbeaters
@barnbuiltbeaters 9 күн бұрын
@ivanyalamov5109 thanks for watching! No issues with Z-axis other than some slop at the end of the cantilever. For touch off, I believe their is a setting in fusion you need to check or a line in G-code you need to add. I haven't used it in months so unfortunately I'm not much help. There is a group on Facebook you can join and ask "3D Printed Budget CNC Plasma Builders", most are building JD's table.

At the 6:10 mark you are turning an allen key to raise the cantilevered X axis to level it. I think I may be doing this wrong on my JD plasma table. I loosen the 8 bolts on the carriage that rides on Y axis to adjust the X axis level. I am going to have to go back and look at some of the instructions again to see if I am doing this wrong. To be honest this is an area I have struggled with and am very much looking forward to the THC to possibly take the leveling out of the equation.
@barnbuiltbeaters
@barnbuiltbeaters 7 ай бұрын
I am sure you just saw they just released the THC but it is a pretty expensive option that many people probably dont need....maybe you do though. I think the budget friendly option is to build a duplicate Y axis (without the motor) which would keep everything level. The cantilever design is the worst part about the build...much more to be desired. I spent a good amount of time getting mine adjusted. If you tighten it too much, it wont roll. Go to that point and then back it off some. It will never be perfectly level, atleast not from my experience but has not affected cutting much. If you are like me, I do not need my cuts to be perfect, just close. A CNC plasma I use to speed up my fabrication process, not looking for perfection perfectly. Let me know if you need help, I am happy to try! Thanks for watching!

Oh man, traming that arm is driving me insane. I get a 5mm (1/4in ish) drop at the end, and I just can't dial it out. I'm combing yt looking for tips on how to deal with it. I might be adding a support rail...
@barnbuiltbeaters
@barnbuiltbeaters 6 ай бұрын
@@timandrew4515 I found a video where someone added a caster wheel to the arm that rides on the table frame. I think for a quick fix this might work perfect. Havent used the table too much recently, so havent had the urge to fix it either! Let me know if you find a solution!

I’m considering building the JDs Garage XL plans with the two sided overarm support. One concern I have with this system is the use of 3D printed parts. You mentioned that the JDs design is a copy of the Langmuir system. Does the Langmuir system use similar plastic parts or something more reliable? I like the “pay as you go” aspect of the JDs design, but my 3D printer is probably not up to the task. Ender 3 v2.
@barnbuiltbeaters
@barnbuiltbeaters 4 күн бұрын
@kitmaira im actually not sure what Langmuir uses. I want to say it is aluminum but honestly not sure. I Printed my JD's design on my Ender 3 V2 out of PLA+ and it has held up well. If it's in your budget I recommend upgrading to a Bambu Labs model. They work much better, work with any material with their provided settings. It makes 3D printing much more enjoyable. The Ender 3 is good to get started though don't get me wrong. Good luck on your build!
@kitmaira
@kitmaira 4 күн бұрын
I’m thinking that buying the Bambu would be much more expensive than buying the printed parts. I get way too little use out of my Ender as it is. Still figuring out what I want to do. Thanks.

One thing you don't mention is the langmuir would have costed even more than 1500... 150 for the water pan and 150 for the expansion kit to get similar size as jds.

Can it be done over a weekend if you have all the materials and 3D printed.
@barnbuiltbeaters
@barnbuiltbeaters Ай бұрын
@wyattb3138 I honestly don't think so. I have a fair amount of time fabricating, wiring, and building and it took me a long time granted mine was a few hours a day. I would say over the course of 2 to 3 weekends is feasible. I highly recommend doing a gantry style over the cantilever design. I wish I had Good luck!

Need to speed up that cut to eliminate the dross and make sure you're not using a fine cut nozzle, use a standard nozzle. Does the CNC table have torch height control?
@barnbuiltbeaters
@barnbuiltbeaters 7 ай бұрын
I am still playing with speeds and plan on increasing as it has been helping a lot with dross. Thanks for the insight! Only one nozzle available for my Plasma (YesWelder CT2050) I believe. CNC does not have THC only z-probe. JD's Garage is working on THC but have not yet released it.

VBENLEM 32 x 30 x 2.5 Inch... www.amazon.com/dp/B07XP6ZN7N?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share FYI, The pan they recommend is nicer than the one. heavier gauge metal. Also note, this one has a drain hole, nothing you couldn't plug but be aware. Thanks for watching!
@glenrock672
@glenrock672 6 ай бұрын
@@barnbuiltbeaters I put a 1/4 turn PVC valve on the drain hole with a 90 elbow pointing down. I drain the water into a 5 gallon bucket after every day of cutting. I do have to lift the pan a little bit to get some of the water out since there is a lip on the drain plumbing. Works great! I don't know what you would do if you didn't have the drain. I mean trying to dump the water without the drain would be a mess as the pan is fairly thin and weak, you have the supports in there and the X axis would be in the way when trying to lift it to drain it . . . love the drain! LOL HIGHLY recommend putting in a drain if you buy a pan without one. With that said, a bottom drain might be better than a side drain . . .
