I own the Bose S1Pro. When playing music through it, sounds great. I do alot of solo acoustic gigs. The acoustic guitar sounds great when playing through it, vocals sound ok, but very boxy. This thing works great for small, boomy wood floor rooms, and is a great floor monitor for bands.

Great videos as always. For my use case, the Mackie would be the winner due to the price and extra headroom. I do events that are often outdoors, I always use a mixer to get what I consider to be the bare minimum of 31-band EQ, compressor and effects, and low-cut filters on the mics (absolutely necessary with mics, especially outdoors). Behringer XR12 is tiny and only about 5 pounds.

This video was awesome thank you so much for taking the time to make it because nobody's made this video and these are the three speakers I was considering. Maybe you could make a video on the knobs and plugins and the pluses and minuses of each of them such as the JBL has four inputs can you use them at the same time can you not use them at the same time how about the Mackey I know it has two or three inputs can you use those at the same time those are kind of important things that'd be a really cool video to make. Thank you for doing this again so grateful 🙏

Happy you enjoyed it! JBL is the winner hands down as far as functions/features/App. Yes both channels can be used at the same time on the Mackie and blended with the master vol. control. One of the biggest weaknesses of the Bose S1 Pro is the fact that it doesn't have a master vol. control. Going through a mixer Mackie wins! Give me more info on your intended use and I can give you a better recommendation on which way to go between the three.

Glad you liked it. Compact has a very good EQ section that you can get a good vocal sound. The Bose has excellent vocals without the extra work. Plug and play! JBL has better low end if you will be using any percussion instruments. The Bose S1 Pro has a better reputation on the Acoustic Guitar Forum which has feedback from gigging musicians. Note, using a small mixer will increase the microphone headroom of the S1Pro greatly. www.acousticguitarforum.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=16

Thanks, Glad you liked it! Agree completely, at high party volume the Mackie is louder than the Bose by a good margin and people at a party won't miss the smoother Hifi mids of the Bose. If you add a small sub the Mackie would make a great inexpensive micro rig.

What you think about the soundboks 3 ?
@shaneberckman
@shaneberckman 2 жыл бұрын
This is the one I was wandering about. I think for the money especially for some like me (DJING) the mackie is a great choice. I was testing my alto TS308 beside the Bose S1pro and when you were playing between the two speakers I could hear the highs on the mackie and they seemed to disappear one the JBL. That's how it was with the alto. The Bose does have amazing sound quality and I could hear the crispy highs on the mackie also. I think if you want this style of speaker and you don't have $650. You can't going wrong with the mackie thump go. Especially if you are like me and use a mixer everytime. Bose to me is the best but after this I may try a couple of these mackie thump go speakers for when I need a little more or a monitor. I really appreciate you doing these videos and by the way as you know I have 2 party box 100's and 2 party box 300s and the sound great for playing music and the bass is amazing but it is more of a party and karaoke than it is for performances. I thought I would use them for kids parties but I don't think it will satisfy me and if you need more headway I don't think it will play loud enough for a crowd over 20. It's more of a patio pool side speaker. I am to spoiled to the quality of the s1pro. LOL hope that helps. I am still wanting to make a video and compare the two. Thank you again and happy Thanksgiving! You are the best!

For the people looking for a small rig for parties up to 75 people you really need to add a sub to the Mackie Thump Go or the Bose S1Pro. The lowest priced sub with hundreds of positive reviews is the Behringer B1200 at $329, 500 watts, 45Hz, 122dB. 43 lbs. www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/B1200DPRO--behringer-eurolive-b1200d-pro-500w-12-inch-powered-subwoofer. Next step up at $800 and the same 42lbs weight is the Bose Sub1 or the EV200 -12SP. Want to spend more? $950 RCF 702, still 43lbs. Behringer is a real deal!

Thanks for the video - the JBL sounded horrific compared to the Mackie as if something was wrong with it. Didn’t expect that. Mackie (LOUD Group) hope you are listening - the Mackie go is a complete deal breaker for any solo or duo act with only two inputs (and only one mic input) and lack of reverb. Geez charge $75 more and throw in a 4 channel mixer (2 mic 2 line) and reverb. Otherwise what’s the point if you have to carry an outboard mixer. I do think it would make a very unobtrusive stage monitor for some smaller gigs we do especially where space is tight (eg when we are also live streaming and have more gear out). But a 2 channel mixer without reverb in 2021 … gross oversight from product development. Sure wish the manufacturers would actually involve professional users in the development process - it’s free advice.

$180 what a deal! Mackie will be louder but you will be giving up reverb and the good EQ the Compact has. The EQ on the Mackie makes no audible difference. If you don't need battery power the QSC CP8 at the same $400 is way superior to the Mackie! If you need battery I use a Beaudens 166 watt external battery that runs it with ease. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07KPYSN3S/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_3?smid=A7190QURUYUTL&psc=1

Another great application for the Mackie is as an auxiliary side fill speaker. In that application, no reason to spend the extra money for the Bose. Another plus is the Mackie App has a mute function on each channel. From the audience perspective you can mute and unmute to see how the aux speaker blends with the main speaker and raise or lower the volume from the Bluetooth distance of 30+ feet!

I thought about you tonight and I put 2 s1pros beside 2 partybox 100s. And they are pretty close. I think the partybox may get a touch lower base and stay clean but the Bose was a little louder. By 2 db. LOL not bad for over half the price. The partybox 110 is hardly any defferant and just has a different light feature. Hopefully i can do a video soon. Honestly the Bose S1pro is better because if I don't hook up the partybox through Bluetooth it doesn't seem to the the full range and when I us my yamaha mixer i have to come out of the head phone jack just to make it work. For playing techno or house music at small parties (indoor/outdoor), do you think I should go for the bose or the mackie ? (without taking price into consideration)
@WWeiss-nv5vz
@WWeiss-nv5vz 2 жыл бұрын
For techno/house they both NEED a sub! Mackie has XLR out which is better for a connection to a sub. Bose has 1/4" balanced out. Mackie has a Sub setting on the App but I never tried it so don't know how effective it is. If it works that means you could play that much louder before clipping. Bose has a slightly smoother midrange, more Hifi sound but at volume you would never notice the difference. Mackie is 2dB louder and stays clean up to 100.2 dB. To compare, to get 3dB louder you would need to add a second S1Pro. More dBs will also help for outside. If max volume is your #1 priority as it is for me, I'll bring the Mackie to the party.

HEADS UP! Just found out the XLR thru out will not work with Bluetooth. Plugging in hard wired works fine. This is a big downside for me since I like to run an aux speaker or sub from the thru out with Bluetooth so I don't need to bring a mixer or being tethered to a cable. If I was using this as my main speaker this would be a deal breaker but I am using this speaker as an aux speaker.

Mackie might meet your needs, loudest of the bunch and very clean at high volume. I know a lot of DJs use the LD Maui5 Go for those purposes. After getting the Mackie I see no use for the $1,000 LD unless you need the better low end of the LD. LD has a muddy high end in comparison. Wireless pairing a second Mackie is very simple for an extension speaker.

I was looking at the Mackie Go Thump before it came out. I own the Mackie Reach, it’s not battery powered but it’s real loud and has four channels with Bluetooth and a AUX channel, but the app on the Reach is horrible! Totally unreliable! Once I bought the Mackie Reach, they discontinued the model, I’m pretty sure Mackie has never updated the app and pretty much abandoned the product, That’s why I stayed clear of the Go Thump, I don’t trust Mackie. I went with the JBL Compact

Great video thanks for posting this! It’s amazing to me that after all these years the Bose still holds up to the new kids on the block as you call them. It’s the smallest and the lightest, and has the smallest woofer, yet still sounds the best and nearly as loud as a speaker with a considerably larger woofer! It says a lot about Bose engineers and their technology! JBL sounded so muffled in this demo. If you can afford it, the Bose is the clear winner to me. It’s also the speaker that will hold its value the best so if you consider resale value, it’s actually the best and cheapest of the lot…

Glad you enjoyed. Agree with your thoughts. S1Pro is for the Pro acoustic musician compared to the Mackie which is louder than the Bose. Then again I haven't tried vocals or instruments through the Mackie but it is a clean sound at volume probably on the same level as the S1 unless you are A/B ing right next to each other. Was able to go up to 102.2 dB with the Mackie on a different track. JBL sound wise is really outclassed by both! Bose S1 is still incredible tech! Waiting for the Bose S2 Pro with proper App, master volume control, and a little more power before clipping. Maybe a 8 or 10 inch version? Of course the weight/size of the S1Pro looks like a toy at Best Buy but it is a GIANT!

JBL can sound good with a lot of EQ adjustment. The downside is when EQ is boosted it clips even sooner. The Mackie sounds cleaner with zero EQ. JBL Compact does have a better low end.
@georgetazberik6834

I think the low end might be why the overall sound pressure is lower than the mackie thump. A sound pressure meter like you use measures across its entire spectrum and the Bose S1 has really weak low end but a really strong (and to be fair, good sounding) high end and it's from the high end that it's sound pressure can seem apparently higher.

@@WWeiss-nv5vz Question for you, if you don't mind. Channel 2 on the mixer has an combi in, a TRS in, and a bluetooth in, what happens if you try to connect all 3 inputs at once? @georgetazberik6834 2 жыл бұрын
I looked it up and it's on page 10 of the manual apparently you really can connect bluetooth, 1/8 inch, and the combo/xlr all at once, so in that way it really is like a 4 channel mixer, you just have to control the volume of the devices at the device end.

People who have the JBL Compact have commented how the sound of the JBL was nowhere near the other two. I want to remind you I played the JBL Flat. The JBL has an excellent 8 band EQ that most people use to enhance the sound. The problem I have found is that when I boost the needed frequencies using EQ, then the JBL clips red at a much lower volume than the Bose S1 and much lower than the 101.5dB the Mackie produces!

Never said anything wrong with the S1Pro, I love it! Not many other 6 inch speakers to compare with, plus what's important is size, weight, and performance. I would hope my $1,900 10" RCF TT10 sounds better than the $400 15" Alto! Woofer size is not always the best way to determine speaker quality. Still trying to convince my wife size doesn't always matter. For the person looking to get a Bluetooth speaker as a monitor or just for tunes the Mackie is $400 vs $650 for the Bose. Mackie is about 2dB louder, and just as clear on the high end. 100.2dB with zero distortion!

The Mackie Reach isn’t battery powered….The FreePlay is but both of those products, as well as the Mackie ProDX mixers were horrible mixer designs, which suffer from absolutely ridiculous “wide range” preamps, that provide no head-amp adjustment and make those products unusable and too embarrassing for Mackie to even archive on their website. This Mackie Thump Go is a poor attempt to compete as a direct competitor to the Bose or JBL in your demo. Both of those products feature a mixer with EQ and reverb, which are essential for busking and/or small acoustic performances. This Mackie attempt is just an overpriced (and poorly designed) Bluetooth speaker. Mackie has had real blunders in R&D in the past many years. They really need to hire qualified engineers who understand the wants/needs of working musicians. * Also….giving the honor of “winner” based on higher SPL isn’t realistic…..Louder isn’t necessarily better, in fact, often times unpleasant and unmusical. The Bose S1 is clearly the best in class and certainly benefits from very qualified design engineering and product development. Yes, if I were on the Bose S1 Design Team I would have added a few more features, but it’s very worthy in its simplicity. You can plug in an AE guitar and mic and immediately get great sound on the go. That’s the beauty of the S1, and justifies it’s high MSRP. Cheers!

I heard bad things about past Mackie portable speakers. Hoping the Thump Go will be reliable. Also not sure about Mackie support?? I think I made it clear for musicians/buskers both JBL and Bose would be my first choice over the Mackie Thump Go. Judging solely on sound quality after A/Bing them side by side I prefer the Mackie, and that's besides the better headroom/clarity at volume. In comparison Bose S1 is very midrange heavy with rolled off highs at 16Hz. Compared to Mackie, it sounds like someone threw a blanket over the speaker. Of course Bose has better/smoother mids and would be less fatiguing for longer gigs. JBL Compact needs a lot of EQing to get the sound Mackie has out of the box. Compact clips red at less than 95dB - deal breaker for me because I play outdoors which soaks up dBs. Sound is such a personal thing - not worth debating.

@@jonesvox1 No offense taken, appreciate your feedback. To low ball the price Mackie left off reverb and a real EQ section. Judging only on SQ the Mackie is very clean, even outperforming the S1Pro, in my opinion. Combined with a decent subwoofer it makes a genuine full range experience. I bought a pair that I run with my JBL MK2. The Mackie adds the high end sparkle missing from the $1,200 JBL that even EQing doesn't fix. They even add the high end I'm looking for from my $3,300 BosePro32! Mixing brands I know is very unconventional but until I find the one speaker that does it all, this is my best solution. This is not for gigging where the audience doesn't really care. This is just my attempt to reproduce as close as possible an audiophile/Hifi experience in a mobile system I can play anywhere.
