That’s a great uk based bag. Too many people with snares, ferro rods and 48 hour rat packs. Socks, high viz and waterproofs are essentials for the uk and so often overlooked. Thanks for the sensible kit 👍

This is only the second truly sensible bag I've ever seen, of the many urban survival bag videos I've watched. I agree with you that a lot of people include a lot of extra nonsense items, like ferro rods and para cord. I always roll my eyes at that. If you live in a city and need to get home, you very likely aren't going to be building any fires or constructing a shelter! What I often carry, however, is a Pocket Rocket stove and a tiny can of gas, tea bags, and dry milk. A cup of tea can make most situations more bearable! And taking a little break for a snack bar and a cuppa will give me the energy needed if I have to walk the 6 miles from central London to my home (which I did once due to bomb threats on some train lines). Given that you've experienced a real SHTF situation, I'm more likely to pay heed to your advice than so many armchair preppers out there. You have the credibility earned from real life experience. Thank you for this good video.

As a fellow brit, one thing I keep in my bag is a cheap disposable poncho. That way when there's an inevitable downpour and you're suck outside for whatever reason, you can chuck it on over both you and the bag and stay dry. They only cost a £1 from tesco and pack down small and light. 👍

Just stumbled upon this. I live in the UK and have been putting together a kit of late, what with all the covidy/brexity/Russia worries!. This video is a godsend and a most welcome, sane approach to the idea of us all having a bit more nous about us. So many people are put off putting together a kit because of all the crazy "preppers" who do videos about why it's essential to carry all kinds of rubbish, like anti-EMP devices, guns etc etc. Bit of common sense and relative preparedness goes a long long way, without going down some kind of rabbit hole!

Great realistic get home bag Andy. I'd personally drop the bigger torch for a standard orange survival bag just in case getting home turned into an overnight and for the minimal weight might add a cheap water filter. The monocular for road signs, etc is a great idea.

@@andyoutdoors4350 great video mate. I think a tactical light would be a good swap for that large heavy light you have. the pronged head makes a formidable weapon if needs be, they are very bright and smaller than their traditional counterparts. Good luck 👍

I always carry ChapStick. You will be surprised how dry lips can get especially in cold dry weather. It is very annoying and ChapStick is invaluable. Gloves are important in cold weather. Maybe a poncho and a gas stove and pot for boiling water. Tea or coffee is more morale boosting than water. You can also have UHF milk with sachets of tea and coffee. A spare set of underwear in case of chafing can be a lifesaver. This has saved me on more than one occasion.

Great set up! In my GHB I have a smaller pouch that has what I think I may need if I have to grab the bag and get going quick. It has a rolled up cap, eye protection, ear plugs, a knife, a dust mask, a small radio, a flashlight, and one bottle of water. I would grab it from the GHB before I put it on and use those items on the run if needed. I may not have the time to stop and dig through my larger bag for those things if it’s chaotic. Once it calms down I can stop and get other items as I need them.

Sensible load out, the D cell torch is your choice I'd go smaller/lighter, but hey budget and what you have already is a personal choice. Brew kit is my luxury item in the urban bag, again choice not essential. thanks for sharing

Nice, the only thing I would add from my personal perspective, as an alternate to a flask with a brew or a back up is a fold down hexi cooker as they don't weigh anything and a small metal cup. If I had to stop for a while and take some sort of shelter so I could make a brew or a little extra warmth of a flame, either using a hexi block or twigs on the hexi cooker base.

Some hiking apps allow you to download maps. Usable when you have no signal on the phone. Good idea to drive or walk the way home once beforehand if you take the tube, bus or train. Your walking route will be different. Moleskin for blisters. Wool socks and hopefully waterproof hiking shoes.

Yes they do. Just flick your phone onto Aeroplane mode to see how it works with no signal. In the UK the OS Locate app has a great compass and will give you your grid reference for the OS maps.

The only thing I think that is often missed is especially in an urban environment is clothing. If the situation is hostile walking around in clothing that stands out then you will be in a pickle. I would wear grey navy blue and black clothing. For me wearing combats just makes you a target and same for bright colourful clothing. Also being physically fit is important running 3-4 miles should be minimum and you should be able to do that in 20/30mins.

A heel from a shoe can break the emergency windows on trains and underground trains, so yes as long as you use the emergency window that is usually in the middle of the carriage Atb Andy

Your remarks reference other peoples kit isn't strictly correct...I am in the UK and the nearest City to my home is 65miles away....I often go there on the train. So for instance, if we had a situation where say we found ourselves in a Grid Down or a worst case scenario, an EMP strike from a foreign state or terrorist group, the public transport systems would go down and roads would be blocked with knackered vehicles....if that was to happen I would have to try make my way back on foot...realistically its a minimum 3 Day hike which means I'd have to spend a minimum 2 nights out....so my kit includes a tarp, a Bivibag, a gas stove and a Steel Bottle & Nesting Cup. I always carry as EDC a Leatherman & a Ferro Rod as well as a a couple of Bic Lighters. As well as other bits & pieces...including 3 dehydrated Main meals, a couple packets of oats, and high protein snack bars.
