I saw Leon 2 weeks before he passed. He was just as good as ever. He looked magnificent all dressed in white and when all the spot lights were on him he glowed i swear.

This was the most generous gesture that Sir Elton could have done for the world, but also for Leon. Merci beaucoup.

In 1971 my roommate at college turned me onto Leon Russell.. Listen to what Elton said about listening to Leon's music from back then that made him cry! If you were of this age and knew Leon as i did,....you cry now too! Thankyou Elton!

These two guys are sooo terrific. As a musician myself, they were very instrumental to me all the way back to 1970. I'm so glad they are doing this wonderful work.

That's me at 8:20! What a great show last night, and what a privilege to be able to be part of the audience this morning! Sadly, I will probably never again find myself sitting in the front row again.

Hearts Have Turned to Stone. Terrific! I didn't know Leon still had a great song like this in him. He's definitely the soul of The Union.

I think Elton has a point, much of the human element is removed from popular music these days. I like this album because it's different. There is not many artists who have this much soul, grit, and humanity in their music. Great job Leon and Elton! PS they do not lip sync like some of these spoiled 20 year old pop singers--these guys are the real deal!

thanks so much for uploading this. Elton really nailed Tiny Dancer. It's great to see all those smiling faces in the audience as he plays it. Great line from Leon-- "Now I have to get up early." Get The Union, but if possible, look for the double disc, which has the great "Mandalay Again," not on the single disc. It's a real classic.

These two are fantastic, i will say this version of Tiny Dancer is the best i have heard , clear slide guitar and backing instruments....I wish Nigel had sat in on this though,,,,
@elton11116 жыл бұрын
Nigel is indeed Elton's drummer by birthright. However, Nigel didn't drum on the original Tiny Dancer. That was the late Roger Pope, who played on occasional Elton songs in the early 1970s, before becoming part of Elton's touring band for several years in the mid '70s. Roger was also a primary inspiration for the Muppet named Animal.

Where is the melody of chorus of Tiny Dancer? "Hold Me Closer Tiny Dancer" used to be strong in falsetto of Elton!
@johnheinrich6907 Жыл бұрын
Elton did a great job, but there is only one music god on that stage, LEON RUSSELL. From playing with David Gates in Oklahoma back in 1957, a Lady Clairol tv commercial with Glen Campbell in 1961, and being on so many recordings as a studio musician with the Wrecking Crew.

Scotty, my comments were a bit knee jer reaction and I did not mean any injoury by them, sorry it came off that way and I understand where you are comeing from. Yes I heard Elton make those comments about having so much energy when your young and it slow down when you get older. i;ve alway like the way Elton put a song together and althought his 80s, and 90s work has been spotty, more recent albums have been very good in my judgement but I understand if you don't feel the same way. :)
@rossor197811 жыл бұрын
Scotty, not only do I not listen to those two 80s albums but they are dust gatherers in my CD collection. This was about the time that Elton was doing a lot of cocaine and booze. When he got cleaned up his music pretty much approved. Listen I subscribed to your you tub page so after the album comes out and some time had past, shoot me a quick note if you like to let me know what you think of it. We can compare notes perhaps.
@mizofan14 жыл бұрын
@MrWalterflynn Far from has-beens, this album has been getting great critics' reviews and is generating quite some buzz, Leon's own Retrospective album in the top 25 of amazon when i last looked, along with The Union riding up in the top 2.
@rossor197811 жыл бұрын
Scotty, I think the title has someting to do about perils that young people are not aware of when they are young so they just off that diving board into those perils. That decirbed what Elton dove into in his younger years in the rock and roll lifestyle but now he is that he is older person, he is reflecting back on the dangers he got into in his younger years and gratful that he came out alive as some rock stars are not that lucky. That is my guess. yap Later:)

Strange album title, and why is Leon Russell, who at least at one time had a direct line to American roots soul, teaming with the mediocrity formerly known as Elton John? I guess Elton must have fired Billy Joel, huh? I didn't understand a single word of the lyrics in the first song on this video. Pathetic.
