Would help if you stated the year of this car you worked on. This would give us a clue if it needs programming or not by the year.

On my w220 my instrument cluster went out and I got another one used. Put the used one in and NO MILEAGE showing. Warweq here said his used one didn't need Star reprogramming and his works fine. Mine doesn't. So reprogram it??

Sorry if you already fixed this, facelift (after 04/2001 build date) cars store mileage in both the ECM and ICM, if you put a used one in and no mileage comes up it means that those two numbers don't match, yes it needs reprogrammed with a STAR/Xentry system.

@@adriankinkade116 Don't say sorry! Still running around with replacement cluster. And your right--the ecu + the chip on the cluster must match. Mine doesn't so no mileage. Thx again!

I replaced my cluster but it didn’t come on at all. What can I do?

Check fuses, the facelift (after 04/2001) cars have 3 for the instrument cluster, passenger side (LHD cars) take of the dashboard end panel where the vent comes out and goes into the door and check all the 5 amp fuses.
