Thanks for the time you spent and the great effort in going though these salts and giving out the results.

Hi Pablo, Nice job on the video. I just wanted to comment that the Tropic Marin Pro-REEF salt mix is specifically designed to be closer to natural sea water level of alkalinity (6.5) with a range of around 7-8 dkH. If you like to keep your alkalinity a little on the high side (around 9 dkH) then our Classic or Bio ACITF SYSTEM salt is more what you are looking for. That being said, because we use only unchelated forms of Ca, and we try to avoid precipitation, we can only put about 380 ppm of CA in the Classic salt due to the higher alkalinity. This is never an issue, though, as so much Ca is usually added to the reef tank on a daily basis anyway. Also, if you are doing a 10% water change with water that is say 40 PPM lower than what you have in your tank, this only accounts for a 4 ppm change in the tank on that one day. Also, please keep in mind that there is MUCH more that influences cost and effectiveness of salt mixes over the simple level of important parameters. I hope this information is helpful. If you would like more information about these parameters, or our salt mixes please visit our website www.tropicmarin.com or PM me. Once again, great video, thanks for posting.

If you are willing to send a sample of the Classic and or Bio Actif I will gladly post my test results on youtube as I have with all of the other salts.

Great video. I went from seachem reef salt to HW reefer from brs. Mixes well with in 10 min. Says on the box good to use after 1 hour of mixing. Looking forward to your review... I can't say I've seen a huge difference in my sps... What made me change was seachem would always make my pumps chalky, and my water would cloudy after 24 hours of mixing.

great video. in the same boat here. tried coral pro, reef crystals, regular io and tropic marin. only one spot on always red sea coral pro.

Awesome video, Ive been using Reef Crystals. Not because Im loyal,lol. Great video man, really nice job!

+915Mang I used them for a while until I noticed the inconsistencies when testing freshly mixed water

when i started my 90 gallon reef for the first 3 years i used D&D H2ocean and had great results but it had a tendency to leave my mixing container a little dirty so i switched to Seachem Salinity and used that till i sold my reef tank 3 years later. I am thinking about getting back in the hobby and will use Seachems Salinity again.

tyrone ridlon I do like how salinity dies their batch testing that way you know what you are getting in the bucket. I do think it is a bit pricey and hard to get.

I read that Tropicmarin is designed for reefers using carbon dosing, and this is why they keep the Alk low, all other parameters are supposed to be really good though. You seem to like the Hanna checkers. Have you had any issues with these things? I use the Red Sea kit now but find it to be a pain!
@pablomay288 жыл бұрын
Yes I like hanna but only for Alk, and PO4. I use salifert for Mg, Ca, and back up for Alk. I use API for ammonia, nitrate, and nitrite. I also have the Red Sea Test kit but it is a pain.

Did you wind up using the HW marine? If so how did you like it? I was thinking of switching from Instant ocean reef crystals to either HW marine or red sea coral pro.
@pablomay287 жыл бұрын
I used it for a whole year and it was OK. Like Reef Crystals it will leave a thick residue over time. If you want to go to "premium salts" I recommend the Red Sea Coral Pro at $73 for 175 gallons rather than HW Marine at $77 for 160 gallons. When I tested HW Marine the parameters were Ca 420, Mg 1280, and Alk 8.9dKH Red Sea Coral Pro Ca 480, Mg 1380, and Alk 12.48dKH
@nickcusato65347 жыл бұрын
Pablo's Reef ya I'm definitely leaning towards the red sea coral pro, but the alk seems a little higher then recommended. what do you currently run in your setup?
@pablomay287 жыл бұрын
Nick Cusato I am currently running Coralife it is very cheap, consistent, and ships for free from Drs Foster & Smith. I have 2 boxes of 200 gallons left. I also plan on going to Red Sea Coral Pro and go from 15 to 10 gallon water changes weekly. Nothing wrong with Coralife just that RSCP is better. In regards to high dKH I currently dose so it just means I will dose less.

I'm thinking of changing from coralife to red sea, how good is red sea?.
@pablomay288 жыл бұрын
Red Sea Coral Pro is a very good salt. A bit high on Alk but one of the better premium salts. Why is it you plan on switch ing from Coralife? I am very pleased with the results from Coralife.
@brittnydonald50548 жыл бұрын
+pablomay28 no I like coralife. no issues. just want to see if its a better salt that bring out the colors of my fish. I run a fowlr so its not like I need a certain salt blend. I guess it wouldn't hurt seeing what other salts do.

I helps to level of your scoops... Uhhhh maybe
@pablomay288 жыл бұрын
Didnt need to level the scoops since all salts were tested at 1.026SG. to keep it fair. Not bashing any salt just sharing my results.
@iPhone4SEman8 жыл бұрын
Yeah but far as the reef crystal didn't you say you were only at a 1023 far as salinity when they tell you it's recommended for a reef to be at 1026 so really your test of reef crystal test wasn't accurate at all
@pablomay288 жыл бұрын
I made sure all salts were at 1.026 before I tested. I wanted to prove that it took more of some salts to mix to the desired specific gravity. It would have been unfair to test all salts at different specific gravity measurements.
