Thank you. Actually own the Sigma 28-70/2.8 DG DN Contemporary and now the Sony FE 24-70/2.8 GM II and for my new small A7CR I use the Sigma 28-70/2.8 and the 16-28/2.8 wide angle partner. The Sony is used on my A7RV and A1. When I use Sigma I don’t feel I’m giving up much and very fairly priced.

I greed with the reviewer about the price of the 24-70mm. The question is what percentage of users pixel peeps at the far corners like these video does. I myself care about the corners. But I know of others that rather get the extra 4mm specially for doing portraits than worrying about the far corners because the main subjects would be for the most part in the middle anyway. So for that reason I would say that depending on the user and what they are looking for one may not be the winner over the other necessarily.

Thanks for the review. One thing to mention though.. You are clearly implying that sharper and more contrast = better. Contemporary (C) means these are very modern/clinical optics, for those are looking for extreme detail for photography and docu videography. The Art (A) series is voluntarily tamed and diffuses light a little more for a more pleasing result in artistic work. Most cinematographers are looking for a more diffused look while retaining good details, and since diffusion filters generally introduce texture/speckles in bokeh and flaring/ghosting, it's better to have some diffusion in the lens for a cleaner result. I'm surprised at the corner sharpness results though.. that little 28-70 is indeed impressive! I'm considering it for the weight, size and price.. but I do prefer the look of the 24-70, that's for sure!

I have also shoot some cool pictures with this lens, but it was too heavy for me to carry it around all the time. So I prefer the little brother. 😉 Maybe it’s time that sigma release a new 24-70 art mark II 🤔

Have you compared the newer art ii 24-70 to the 28-70?

Not yet, but what I heard so far is, that there is not so much difference in terms of sharpness to the first generation.

@@DoctorScent yes it is lighter, but not much sharper than the first generation. The first generation is also very sharp. If you already own the first generation, it’s not necessary to upgrade to the second generation. Nevertheless the 28-70 is still lighter 😉

Hey thank you for the comparison I actually ordered the 28-70 ,I love my sigma 1.4 primes but weight is an issue for me. Anyways I think maybe the lens sample itself can be a factor. Frost has done the same comparison and the art came out sharper from center to edges so imho maybe the actual sample aka each lens based on slight differences in manufacturing makes a difference, So im thinking you got a really good 28-70 off the manufacturing line. Appreciate your video cheers

Thank you very much for your comment and your kind words. 👍 I always try to be objective and honest in my tests. I buy all my cameras and lenses myself and can therefore create independent reviews. But there are sometimes big differences between manufacturers in terms of quality control. I have a video on my channel where I compare two of the same Tamron 17-28mm F2.8 and they have big differences in image quality. Sometimes it's like winning the lottery whether you get a good sample.

Hi thanks for your excellent video. 400 grams of difference is important. to work at discos and in clubs which would you prefer between 24-70 and 28-70? Also to be mounted on the gimbal in some cases.

Thank you very much for your comment. 👍 I would recommend the 28-70 for clubs and gimbal work. The 24-70 is very heavy to hold it for a long time on the gimbal and on the camera. But if you have strong arms, it doesn’t matter. 😉

Thanks for the good video I want to go with sigma 28-70 over tamron 28-75 g2, because it's lighter. but I'm afraid there would be a big difference at 70mm f2.8 in image quality (FYI, I mostly shoot aesthetic vlogs at home) Do you think sigma at 70mm f2.8 is bad??

Yes I’ve made the same test with 2.8 but same results. Both lenses have a bit less sharpness at 2.8 but the 28-70 was still better.
